Job Description

Temporary position ends in June 2024. Start date: February 1 and ongoing until end of school year

JOB SUMMARY

This position engages with middle school students during their lunch break by greeting and socially interacting playing games tutoring mentoring and guiding and supporting culturally relevant positive and safe activities.

LINK sta work in collaboration with the schools administration and the District Whole Child Coordinator to provide all students with a positive nurturing and safe environment. LINK staff engage with the school community as positive role models by demonstrating an antiracist culturally responsive and growth mindset.

BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Basic duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists with the lunch routines to support a safe structured and consistent environment for students

Models and supports healthy and positive social interactions.

Supervises students during activities ensuring safety and security.

Assists students with managing behaviors and resolving conflicts.

Engages students with encouraging positive and future thinking feedback.

Facilitates indoor or outdoor activities to support healthy interactions and relationships.

Supports maintaining a safe and positive environment for all students at all times.

Reports student injuries safety sanitary and hazards immediately to the supervisor.

Complies with applicable District policies and procedures state local and federal laws rules and regulations.

Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students staff and community.

Attends work regularly and is punctual.

Participates in training and staff meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. No higher education required.

Experience: Previous experience with children in an educational or recreational setting preferred.

Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others. Focuses on solving conict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.

Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in oneonone small group situations to students and other school staff. Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries from students. Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email internet and word processing software.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students teachers parents and members of the community. Ability to exercise good judgment work in a dynamic environment and appropriately react to a wide spectrum of behaviors of students.

Certificates Licenses Registrations: Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card blood borne pathogen training child abuse sexual conduct and any other District required training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; stand; sit; use hands for manipulation handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The employee may occasionally climb stairs or ladders.

Link Lunch Mentor(s) abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The work environment is a middle school cafeteria and may include the school library gym and outdoor playground. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employee maybe exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

Successful candidates may work one to five days a week and a portion or a whole shift each
