MADISON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT #38

Position Title:1:1 School Nurse

1:1 Nurse formiddle school Special Education student

Length of Work Yr: 9 months

Salary Range: $44687 $64722

Placement based on education and experience

Department:Madison Meadows

Reports To: School Principal and Student Services Director

JOB GOAL:

Provision of health services by a qualified school nurse designed to enable a student with a disability to receive a free appropriate public education as described in the individualized education program (IEP) of the student. Successfully partner with thestudents special education team and parents to collaborate communicate and cooperate on the oversight and care of a special education students medical needs. Serve as a resource for teachers staff student and family for the students schoolbased medical and health needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid Arizona Registered Nurses License
  • Two years nursing experience pediatric experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the purpose of the school health program and procedures within the State of Arizona.
  • Demonstrates understanding patience and tactfulness with students parents teachers and administrators.
  • Possesses working knowledge / understanding of community health and social problem resources.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate current records.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage the health office.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with students staff and public to provide health education.
  • Demonstrates ability to use standard office and health services equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to students staff and public in a positive manner.
  • Must possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively with partner Health Associate independently and to make sound judgments and decisions in a wide varietyof situations under pressure of a schoolbased health services office.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities shall include but not be limited to the following:

  1. Provision of health services by a qualified school nurse designed to enable a student with a disability to receive a free appropriate public education as described in the individualized education program (IEP) of the student.
  2. Assumes the responsibility for appropriate intervention management and referral for schoolaged student healthcare matters.
  3. Dispense medications to student as needed.
  4. Identifies and reports to the principal suspected child abuse and neglect per applicable laws and school district policies.
  5. Collaborates / communicates / cooperates positively and successfully withschool nurse family and appropriate school staffto maximize health services for student.
  6. Provides orientation and ongoing health training in schoolbased health protocols for relevant school staff.
  7. Requisitions and maintains medical supplies within the school.
  8. Works collaboratively on attendance recordkeeping with attendance clerk.
  9. Participates in the health evaluation process for placement of special education student.
  10. Initiates / maintains/ updatesstudent school health record.
  11. Aids schoolaged student in management of school healthcare matters to allow students to develop their full potential in health and education.
  12. Cooperates with local health department on schoolbased healthcare matters and concerns as needed.
  13. Provides information to teaching staff that relates general sound health to effective learning in educational settings.
  14. Gives medical leadership and guidance in development and maintenance of individual student health program.
  15. Contributes to general health education program of school and community.
  16. Assumes responsibility in caring for the sick and injured in the school in accordance with school policy.
  17. Cooperates withfamily and physician in the general health program for student.
  18. Interacts with students staff and public in a positive manner.
  19. Understands and applies safety precautions as outlined in MSDS.
  20. Submits Medicaid billing as outlined and requested by the districts Department of Student Services.
  21. Operates equipment safely.
  22. Meets collaboratively and in a positive manner with Health Associate and Director of Special Education on a regular basis.
  23. Performs additional duties as assigned.

LENGTH OF WORK YEAR/GRADE ON SALARY SCHEDULE:

209 day contract 07/24/202505/20/2026. RN Salary Range Salary to be determined yearly according to Governing Board approved range.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated by each campus Principal in conjunction with the Director of Student Services.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Supervised by the Principal with input from the Director ofStudent Services. Serves as a student supervisor in the schoolbased health center.
