Job Description
The Summer LearningOpportunities of the Holyoke Public Schoolsprovide students with opportunities for academic support enrichment and recreation. Our programs run Monday through Thursday and are dedicated to fostering a supportive and engaging environment for students to thrive academically and socially. This is an ideal position for an innovative and enthusiastic team player who is passionate about promoting positive youth development in asummer program setting. Youth Development Workers work as a team with fellow youth workers along with othersummer staff to create a safe supportive and studentcentered learning environment. Youth Development Workers will serve as support to summer instructors and will also be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the team and communitybuilding activities.
Responsibilities include:
Student Support
- Provide support for every component of theschool day including recreational academic and enrichment activities.
- Build strong positive relationships with students through positive and respectful 1:1 conversation mentoring and skillbuilding activities
- Promote positive behavior youth development and student voice and leadership within the program
- Provide 1:1 and small group academic support to students under the direction of a certified teacher
- Address behavior issues/concerns in accordance with established behavior policies
Program Support
- Be an active participant in staff development and engage in reflection on adult practices to promote positive youth development and socialemotional learning
- Support staff in providing students with the programming environment that is conducive to learning
- Assist teachers and enrichment instructors with various logistical aspects of implementing enrichment programs and academic support
Family and Community Engagement
- Make weekly phone calls home to families and parents to offer positive feedback about youth participation in the program
- Participate in family engagement events and activities
Requirements
- High School Diploma or working toward one with demonstrated student leadership experience
- Experience with students in an urban setting preferred
- Experience with diverse populations preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills and ability to be flexible and think creatively
- Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply
Salary: $1530 per hour3035 hours per week
