We are seeking a Sterile Processing Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our team and assist in the treatment of small animals admitted to our hospital while providing quality customer service to internal and external customers. In this fastpaced environment you will support veterinary staff and help maintain a sanitary and wellorganized service within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of related experience in sterile processing veterinary or related medical setting
Persons in this position should have a working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software programs along with strong interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to multitask and work cooperatively with others demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to frequent changes to task schedule or assignment. Manual dexterity to handle fragile instruments and meticulous attention to detail are crucial for success in this role.
*The wellqualified candidate will hold certifications such as Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Medical Assistant. They will have experience in a medical or veterinary setting and possess knowledge of veterinary/medical terminology. Additionally they will be skilled in decontaminating inspecting assembling packing wrapping and sterilizing surgical instruments with experience in various sterilization methods.
Some of the Responsibilities Include:
Disinfection and Cleaning: Process instruments upon arrival at the decontamination area performing meticulous duties for disinfection decontamination packing wrapping and sterilization. Operate and monitor sterilization equipment quarantine instruments conduct biological quality control and release items postresults. Assist in training new team members and crosstrainers.
Inventory and Supply Management: Procure and stock supplies from storage and pharmacy/warehouse pull sterile supplies and instruments for procedures and submit daily orders for operating room supplies. Create and update a quick reference for common needs maintain a clean and organized instrument decontamination room unload the dumbwaiter throughout the day and restock unused items.
Maintain Safe Clean and Sanitary Work Environment: Provide best practices for infectious disease control and sanitation to maintain a clean and organized environment. Oversee safety procedures for faculty staff and students uses proper PPE and follow VMTH infection control policies. Perform regular cleaning of the surgery suite including operating rooms substerile hallway central sterile and decontamination rooms storage areas locker rooms break room and instrument handling areas. Clean and disinfect equipment and performs basic maintenance.
General and PeriOperative: Observe and report animal behavior issues/conditions adhere to aseptic/sterile techniques and maintain compliance with AAHA/AVMA/IACUC surveys. Manage MSDS guidelines and chemical use direct supply requests operate and troubleshoot equipment assist with specimen handling and patient transfer and submit correct charges. Maintain training binder scan and organize documents assist in perioperative care read surgical texts and verify patient and procedure set up the operating room circulate surgical procedures assist anesthesia perform patient positioning maintain records dispose of sharps and biohazardous waste check for corrections and train new team members.
Training Compliance and Administrative: Maintain current training and certification follow Texas A&M and VMTH policies promptly enter time and leave requests and communicate via various media. Assist in policy revision/preparation independently manage inventory maintain service inventory sheets and ensure compliance with AAHA/AVMA/IACUC/AALAC/USDA surveys. Arrive on time in surgical attire assist with teaching labs and clinical research and participate in CE classes and seminars.

Salary: starting at $16.35/hour
Schedule:Monday through Friday shifts include but are not limited to the 8a5p 9a6p 10a7p or 11a8p. This position may require flexibility to work alternate shifts based on the surgery schedule or other assignments and participate in holiday coverage as needed.
Please Note: Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency campus closure class cancellations etc. and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor.
