As a Substation Engineering Intern you will be supporting the work of designing the physical layout and electrical systems of projects on highvoltage substations at voltages from 12kV to 500kV with the goal of providing excellent quality work for our clients.
This is a fulltime 10week internship that begins in early June 2025. Work may be done remotely from any U.S. location or hybrid from our Reston VA office. At this time we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance for this internship.
As a Substation Physical Engineering Intern you will:
Assist engineers and designers in the physical and electrical design of substation upgrade projects
Review and update substation layout drawings including OneLine Diagrams Electrical Arrangements and Sections Grounding Plans Conduit Plans Lightning Protection Plans Control Cubicle Arrangements and LowVoltage AC/DC Wiring Diagrams
Perform AC Systems Calculations and Design
Development of Equipment Specification and Selection based on Clients Criteria
Development of Bill of Materials based on Design Criteria
Interns may or should have:
The ability to work with and understand technical concepts while also being able to communicate them to nontechnical personnel
Basic knowledge of the electric grid
Strong organizational skills
Strong skillsand capabilities in Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel)
Basic Qualification:
Currently enrolled in a bachelors degree program studying Electrical Engineering with an anticipated graduation of August 2025 or later.
Preferred Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a masters degree program studying Electrical Engineering or related field with an anticipated graduation of August 2025 or later.
Knowledge of power systems
Advanced user of Microsoft products specifically Word and Excel
