LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR
Job Title: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Reports to: Coordinator for Mental and Physical Wellness

Job Description/Primary Purpose:
Provides services to students in treating mental behavioral emotional problems and disorders that will facilitate a positive caring climate for learning in an orderly and purposeful environment. Services will include assessment counseling intervention and referrals.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Masters degree from accredited college or university in Social Work Psychology Counseling Social or Behavior Science or arelated field.
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a valid Texas license granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors
- Registered Play Therapist (RPT) preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Increase and improve access to culturally competent and developmentally appropriate school and communitybased mental health services particularly for students with symptoms of emotional disturbance and mental illness.
- Increase awareness and identification of mental health issues among school staff working with young people and promote positive mental health for students families school staff and community.
- Help students develop skills that will promote resilience selfregulation and prosocial behaviors; avert development or increased severity of mental and behavioral health disorders.
- Provide individual psychotherapy services.
- Provide direct support and assist with training on mental health issues to district staff.
- Provide brief intervention and crisis intervention as needed.
- Assess student needs and concerns.
- Work effectively with district staff and other agencies to meet individual student needs.
- Comply with district policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
- Adhere to the districts counseling and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business. Ability to exercise discretion regarding matters of a sensitive or confidential nature as well as maintain confidential students records.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work assigned.
- Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to effectively conference with students parents and staff.
- Ability to use software to access databases email create spreadsheets and do word processing.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
- Ability to engage in selfevaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Travel Requirements:
Travel to all district campus buildings and professional meetings.
Equipment Used:
Standard office and classroom equipment including computer and peripherals.

Maintains emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting. Frequent repetitive hand motions including keyboarding and use of mouse. Regular light lifting.
Environment:
Works in an office setting and may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
