Job Description

POSITION: Technology Technician II

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Technology & Innovation

SALARY GRADE: State Salary Schedule commensurate with degree certificationand experience

NATURE OF WORK

An individual in this class supports and maintains both administrative and instructional computers software and networks. This work includes repair of all technologyrelated equipment. Employee provides onsite assistance in classrooms media centers computer labs and administrative offices. Employee identifies problems and takes appropriate corrective action. Employee installs and upgrades all technologyrelated equipment in network and standalone environments. Typically this employee will provide firstresponse support from the system level for the maintenance and operation of computers software and networks at the building level. Employee may have multiple sites to maintain. Complex problems are referred to Technician III or Network Engineer positions. This position is distinguished from the Technician I by its emphasis on buildinglevel support and more specialized knowledge of computer hardware software and computer networks.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Under the supervision of the Technician III or Network Engineer assists with the installation of hardware software and related peripherals.
  • Ensures the maintenance of all computers software and local area networks by monitoring performance.
  • Installs upgrades to hardware and software.
  • Makes recommendations to buildinglevel staff regarding upgrades and replacement of technologyrelated equipment.
  • Reads and interprets schematics wiring diagrams and manuals.
  • Operates standard and specialized electronics devices in testing and troubleshooting computers and other technologyrelated equipment.
  • Attends classes and seminars to enhance knowledge of equipment and operating

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of computers and related technologies.
  • General knowledge of IP networking local area networks installation of printers software as required.
  • Understanding of mechanical electronic and computer principles as applied to the repair and maintenance of computers and peripherals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read analyze and interpret periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general public.

REASONING SKILLS ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Knowledge of information technology devices audiovisual equipment basic computer operation and software.
  • Ability to learn various computer operations requiredfor management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.

OTHER

  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program;
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on the division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents; Skill in oral and written communication

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use ngers tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specic visual abilities required by this job include close vision color vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift les paper school supplies books etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an

employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a twoyear college or technical school with a degree in a related field and eighteen months of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A Certification required; network related certifications desired.
