WHO WE ARE

Montgomery County Department of Recreation is a nationally recognized and awardwinning agency with a mission to provide high quality diverse and accessible communitybased programs activities and services that serve the recreation and leisure needs of the Montgomery County community. The department manages 39 facilities including recreation centers senior centers and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as outofschool activities aquatics classes youth and adult sports programs and leagues seniorprogramsand therapeutic recreation.


WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Department isseekinga dynamicmotivatedenergeticand bilingualfulltimeCustomer ServiceProgram Aidein support of the Communications and Public Outreach Team. Our Program Aidesare responsibleforbeing knowledgeable about Montgomery County Recreation programs and activities andproviding customer service support.


What Youll Be Doing


  • Providinginperson and phone customer servicein English and Spanish. That includes providing information andistanceverifyingand updating customer and organization accountsandistingpatrons with account related problems.

  • Supporting the Departments Rec Assist (financialassistance and Employee Wellnessinitiativesby reviewingand approvingapplicationsin English and Spanishissuingnotices toparticipantsandmaintainingappropriate systemsand documentation

  • Preparingrelevant reportsenteringand compilingdata using recreation program software

  • Assistingcustomers with registration program payment planstransferrequestsand other transactions.

  • Provide support andassistanceto other areas of the Department as needed.

  • Translating formal county documents (press releases fliers etc. from/into Spanish.

  • Tabling and onsite support at department events.

  • ProvidingassistancetoSpanishspeaking customers.


Successful candidates willdemonstratehigh quality customer service skills and experience working with culturally and racially diverse groups. They will have excellent communication and organizational skills; and be proficient inutilizingMicrosoft Office Suites and recreation software systems. These positions may require work during nontraditional hours to include early mornings evenings/nightsweekendsand holidays; may require work that involves physical demands occasionally working outdoors in varying weather and extreme temperatures; and the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside of an assigned facility. Successful candidates may provide onsite coverage and support to other departmental activities during the work schedule. To ensure a positive workplace and tocomply withfederal state and County laws incumbentsare responsible forcompleting mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within the specifiedtimeframe.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Two 2 years paraprofessional experience supporting program/specialization areadirectly relatedto the assignment of the position

  • Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

  • Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Individuals appointed to a position in this class willbe requiredto serve a probationary period of six months during which time performance will be carefully evaluated. Continuation in this class will be contingent upon successful completion of the probationary period.

Preferred Criteria Interview Preferences


  • Experience working in Rec Trac or other complex relational database systems.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office 365.

  • Experience planningcreatingandmaintainingspreadsheets and databases as well as generating/preparingaccurateand concise reports.

  • Experienceestablishingand maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers individualsgroupsand agencies interested in or involved in recreation activities.

  • Experience providing direct customer service.

  • Experience delivering effective oral and written communication.

  • Ability to speak read and write inSpanish proficiently(advanced level).
