Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through three areas of impact: youth development healthy living and social responsibility.
The Marketing & Communications Manager helps strengthen the communitys understanding of the YMCAs cause and impact on youth development healthy living and social responsibility in a brandcompliant and creative way.
The Marketing & Communications Manager will work with the VP of Community Engagement in support of the Ys operations and development to consistently creatively and professionally convey critical Y brand and messaging both internally and externally.
Essential Functions
Works closely with theVP of Community Engagementto create review implement and track strategic marketing objectives related to youth development healthy living social responsibility and development.
Develops produces and distributes written materials necessary to promote development and operations
Writes and submits press releases when appropriate; maintains updated files of YMCAs media relations (both print and electronic)
Oversees brand compliance by incorporating YUSAs brand and messaging guidelines in the design of all Ybranded materials and collateral internally and externally
Works closely with the Digital Content Coordinator to design internal and external Ybranded materials such as print and electronic newsletters flyers direct mail pieces printed and digital documents banners member notifications and updates
Works closely with the VP of Community Engagement to review and manage critical external communications sent via the Ys email marketing platform
Responsible for creating advertising collateral such as print ads flyers brochures billboards signage social media posts and radio copy.
Maintains relationships with print and digital vendors including cost estimating and project management
Works closely with the VP of Community Engagement to cultivate and steward relationships with partner organizations
Works with the VP of Community Engagement and the Digital Content Coordinator to create and manage digital and online signage & messaging strategy including the Y website app social media and digital screens
Researches new vendors for website and/or app hosting platforms as needed and coordinates with vendors in the transition process.
Manages and executes SEO strategy
Manages professional photoshoots and takes photos/videos as needed
Writes stories of impact that demonstrate the Ys work in youth development healthy living and social responsibility
Identifies trains and provides oversight of interns that support the marketing and communications work of the Y
Applies professional/managerial marketing and communications principles and judgment within overall direction established by senior management.
Solves complex problems within the Marketing & Communications function for the organization; the employee applies research training or business approaches in new ways; they develop and recommend new alternatives to senior leaders
May plan and coordinate special events
Completes all required trainings as assigned by supervisor by scheduled due date
Must maintain a current valid Oregon drivers license a DMV driving record that meets YMCA standards and evidence of insurability throughout entire term of employment
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree or equivalent years of training in marketing communications or closely related field
3.5 years of experience in marketing communications or closely related field
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including copy editing ability
Previous experience editing copy
Previous experience doing website design website management and SEO experience
Previous experience managing an app
Previous experience developing and executing print publications including prepress processes and print vendor relations
At least intermediatelevel skills with Adobe Creative Suite
Previous experience with graphic design software such as Marq Canva and/or other design applications as well as email management systems
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree or equivalent years of training in marketing communications or closely related field
Formal education or professional experience in graphic design or closely related field
Advanced computer skills including Constant Contact Daxko Engage Wordpress or Square Space Google AdWords MSOffice Photoshop Illustrator or InDesign
Experience managing social media accounts for an organization
Previous experience working collaboratively with senior leadership
Experience working for a YMCA or another nonprofit organization
Bilingual (verbal and written) in English/Spanish
