Job Description
Title: Teaching Assistant
Reports to: Classroom Teacher and Principal
Requirements:
High School Diploma Associates Degree or Bachelor Degree
Preferences:
The candidate has worked with children with special needs especially those on the Autism
spectrum or those with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Scope of Duties:
The candidate will:
Be responsible to and function under the direction of the Classroom Teacher.
Assist the Teacher in the delivery of instruction in and the implementation of individualized education program (IEP) goals and objectives.
Assist the Teacher in facilitating students independence happiness social and emotional well being awareness language and pragmatics and appropriate behavior.
Assist the Teacher in ensuring the safety of students and their inclusion across all settings and environments including the local community.
Assist the Teacher in the collection of data and feedback to alter methods as needed.
Participate in all relevant trainings and professional development as required by the program.
Carry out any other assigned duties for example: supervision of student(s) at breakfast lunch or in outdoor spaces; selfcare and personal care support such as toileting; classroom organization tasks; and any other duties as assigned by the Classroom Teacher Principal or Executive Director.
The candidate must:
Be able to lift pull or push approximately forty 40 pounds and have the ability to move
quickly from the standingtofloor and floortostanding positions.
Be willing to work with verbally and/or physically aggressive students and engage in crisis and behavior deescalation and management training (SafetyCare).
Pass both SAFIS fingerprinting and CORI screenings in order to be employed.
