Job Description:
The Moody Makerspace is seeking a creative friendly and outgoing individual with a passion for educating others about making. The Moody Makerspace allows students faculty and staff access to creative tools and equipment including 3D printers laser engravers vinyl cutters embroidery machines bike repair and various hand tools. Maker Mentors oversee the use of this equipment and provide help and guidance as patrons realize their projects. They regularly assist students faculty and staff through brainstorming teaching and assisting with equipment and tool use throughout the life of the project.
A good Maker Mentor is one who does not shy away from trying new things is quick to make friends with new people and who will actively go in search of the answer when presented with a unique challenge. Maker Mentors welcome others to the world of making with enthusiasm and an encouraging demeanor.
Responsibilities include:
Consulting with patrons on making activities for both academic and personal projects.
Training patrons on use of the various tools and equipment.
Providing excellent customer service to patrons.
Cleaning and organizing the space according to assigned shift duties.
Staffing the makerspace during open hours.
Facilitating makerspace orientations workshops and trainings.
Helping with Makerspace functions around campus.
Assisting with training new employees.
Assisting with various projects activities and tasks related to the Makerspace (Booths at Freshman Orientation Diadeloso Christmas on 5th Street etc.
Continually improving upon personal skills with regards to the equipment available
Completing all assigned training in a punctual manner.
Maintaining regular and punctual attendance.
Preferred skills:
Strong social skills and good communication.
Curiosity and a love of learning.
Ability to prioritize and take initiative.
Natural inclination towards cleanliness and good organization.
Experience with engineering robotics design or working in a shop environment is a plus.
