Job Description

Job Summary

The Academic Advisor under the general supervision of the Associate Director of the University Center for Undergraduate Advising (UCUA) advises undergraduate students regarding university academic requirements policies and procedures. The Academic Advisor provides critical support for programs and initiatives designed to strengthen the academic success and retention of all undergraduate students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently advises undergraduate students about academic requirements Collaborates with University academic advisors to help students achieve academic success. Documents important information given to advisees regarding their academic progress for consistency and accuracy. Accesses and understands student records.
  • Assists seniorlevel staff members with maintenance duties of existing programs Updates presentations and advising materials compiles student data and create adhoc reports in support of the program. Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Proven experience working with students parents faculty and staff. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills including professional demeanor and ability to be a team player. Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word PowerPoint Teams Excel etc.. Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills. Maintains excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritize responsibilities multitask and meet deadlines. Exhibits strong critical and creative thinking skills and able to make sound decision making and ability to remain objective. Demonstrated ability to develop implement and maintain webbased systems and databases. Able to work flexible hours including evenings is desired.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies procedures and guidelines including but not limited to safety civility information security and nondiscrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the universitys commitment to a vision of excellence.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelors degree in one of the behavioral sciences public or business administration or a jobrelated field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

Demonstrated experience in academic advising in a college/vocational setting preferred.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5083 $5127per month commensurate with candidates education experience skills and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5083 $7228 per month.

Time Base

1.0 timebase 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

Additional Information

Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
