Position Summary
This position is primarily responsible for all electrical maintenance to academic buildings but will also be required to provide service for residence halls as needed. Duties will include corrective and preventive maintenance. This position requires full aptitude in electrical and working knowledge of HVAC & Plumbing that is not the major discipline. Functioning specialist electrician with the ability to perform tasks in other trades. Knowledge Technical Performs a variety of recurring and nonrecurring tasks/functions. These tasks/functions may involve related or varying processes to test renovate overhaul replace and perform preventive maintenance on standard mechanical systems. Provides technical assistance to others by troubleshooting standard facilities maintenance issues and determining their cause. Ability to mentor other technicians. Problem Solving Identifies facilitiesrelated maintenance problems that require indepth analysis identifies options for solving those problems. Solve unusual facility maintenance problems that require the application of journey level trades knowledge and determines the most effective and efficient course of action. Gathers and analyzes/interprets information to better understand the nature of the problem. May seek input from subordinates peers and/or managers in the decisionmaking process in order to solve the problem. Evaluates options and chooses appropriate action by considering potential outcomes. Makes sure that problem is appropriately addressed. Communication Clarifies the purpose and importance of directive instructions and messages; presents information in a clear and concise manner. Seeks inputlistens and checks for mutual understanding;asks for and provides clarification as needed. Explains purpose and procedures of facilities maintenance projects in language easily understood by the customer. Safety and Health Compliance Identifies and resolves potential safety problems and unsafe work practices. Demonstrates to employees and others safe ways to perform job tasks or the use of equipment. Informs supervisor of unusual safety concerns and makes recommendations for resolutions. Determines appropriate protective equipment based on establish standards. Regularly assesses site and shop operations for safety. Client/Customer Service Identifies options develops solutions and takes action when responding to customer requests. Satisfies individual customer requests while balancing multiple priorities. Assesses or checks with customer to ensure solution meets request. Develop effective working relationships with internal and external customers(vendors subcontractors etc.)that further the work units goals. Reviews customer requests and seeks clarification as needed. Decision Making Ability to ensure all work meets and/or exceeds applicable codes and standards. Ability to check and recheck work prior to during and after completion. Ability to ensure that all parts of a project/task are completed. Ability to use appropriate record keeping methods.
Preferred Years Experience Skills Training Education
35 Years experience in electrical work is preferred. Any trade school training certifications and license is preferred.
