The Department of Public Works is currentlyseekingto fill a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist I/II position within the Enterprise GIS team. This positionis responsible forcontributing to data management efforts and GIS project support for the Department of Public Works andother interdepartmental partners.
Salary range(s) for this classification is/are:
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist I: $78230.88 $95309.76
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist II: $95571.84 $116450.88
This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent 5 ongoing nonpensionable compensation. Actual salary shall bedeterminedby the final candidates qualifications and experience.
The Enterprise GIS teamoperatesout of the Department of Public Works but works across the city to coordinate GIS efforts lead multidepartmental GIS projects geospatiallyenable City business systems administer Enterprise GIS infrastructure for citywide use and provide GISsupport for various City departments and programs. The GIS Specialist I/II is a data focused position thatis responsible forcreatingmaintaining and ensuring the integrity of enterprise GIS datasetsas well as providing ongoing support forEnterpriseand departmentalGIS projects and applications. The position requires a commitment to building andmaintainingquality GIS data strong cartographic design skills good attention to detail and customer service andproficiencywith ArcGIS software.
Under the direction of a senior team member the GIS Specialist I/II willmaintainGIS datasets andcontribute tomappingefforts application developmentandgeneralgeospatial analysis needs. Key responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Produce analyze and present geographic informationutilizingArcGIS Pro ArcGIS Online/Portal and/or related software.
Create andmaintainenterprise GIS datasets using standard spatial editing tools and versioning. Interpret resources such as assessors maps discrepancy reports Councilapproved ordinances and resolutions memorandums and thirdparty data sources to enter graphic and attribute data into GIS whilemaintainingdata integrity.
Perform quality assurance checks on GIS data.
Produce highquality print and web mapsdemonstratinggood designskills and sound cartographic principles.
Use SQL queries to produce reports on data management work.
Use ETL (extract transform and load) Model Builder or scripting tools to design and create GIS processes.
Develop workflows and documentation for various GIS tasks.
Fulfill requests for GIS data analysis maps or reports usingappropriate GIStools and following City protocol.
Provide support for departmental GIS users including workflow automation data conversion map production training analysis support and troubleshooting issues.

Education and Experience
Geographic Information Systems Specialist I:A Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems Engineering Computer Science Management Information Systems Mathematics Physical Science Geography Urban Planning or closely related field.
Geographic Information Systems Specialist II:A Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems Engineering Computer Science Management Information Systems Mathematics Physical Science Geography UrbanPlanningor closelyrelated field AND one 1 year of increasingly responsible experience in computer programming geographic information systems or transportation planning.
Acceptable Substitution: GIS Specialist II: Possession of a valid GIS or GISP certificate from a certifying body acceptable to the City of San Jos may be substituted for the one 1 year of experience in computer programming geographic information systems or transportation planning.
