As an Equipment Operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and smooth operation of our roadways especially during the challenging winter months when snow plowing becomes essential. Your contributions extend beyond snow removal to encompass work on various construction sites where your skills directly impact the infrastructure and safety of the traveling public. Each day presents opportunities to tackle manual labor challenges emphasizing the importance of teamwork and dedication.
In addition to operating heavy machinery you are entrusted with performing minor repairs and conducting preventative maintenance on your equipment and trucks. Your role also involves meticulous recordkeeping as you complete daily logs and reports to track equipment usage and maintenance history. This documentation is vital for operational efficiency and fosters accountability within the team. Work Schedule and Additional Information:- Fulltime employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday Friday with a 30minute lunch. Winter hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday Friday with 30minute lunch.
- Travel overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:In some cases the starting salary may be nonnegotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee(Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title as determined by the Office of Administration) Program; or
- Graduation from a Commercial Drivers License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possessa valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- Must possess a valid Medical Examiners Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders and two additional pieces of construction equipment within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
