10Week Summer Internship

Interns will gain handson work experience while exploring a career in Extension. Interns will study observe and participate in a county Extension program under the direction and supervision of experienced Extension Agents. Intern will have the opportunity to develop countybased Agriculture curriculum for adult and youth audiences. Supervision and coordination of daily activities while in the county is the responsibility of the County Extension Agent.
Responsibilities- Intern is expected to participate in all aspects of the county agricultural Extension program including; farm visits field days youth/adult extension programs and other Extension events. These may include YMCA Summer Cooking Camp (Teen Cuisine) My Plate My Family (Adult Program) Youth Garden Project Learn Grow Eat & Go Junior 4H Camp local 4H and Parks & Rec Day Camps (Leadership assistance for programming and implementation) lead and assist with 4H judging teams Appalachian Sheep & Goat Alliance Loadout assistance Hawkins County Cattlemens Video sale and cattle loadout soil and forage test onfarm visits and consultation facilitate Whats in your Forage program community garden (teach plant collect and distribute) and canning/food preservation classes.
Qualifications- Candidate must be enrolled in a college of agriculture natural resources environmental science or closely related major.
- Preference given to those that have completed at least 50 percent of the required course work for the Bachelors degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher and has at least one more semester to complete after the summer internship has ended. Preference will be given to students presently enrolled in the University of Tennessee Tennessee State University any other university or college in Tennessee or to a student resident of Tennessee enrolled elsewhere. Preference will also be given to those with Extension experience (i.e. former 4H member etc.. However all eligible applicants will be considered.
- Must reside in or live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned location. Housing not provided.
- Must have own transportation to and from work.
- Must present a written and oral report of the project accomplishments and training experience at the end of the internship.

Work Location
Compensation and Benefits
- $7600 (gross) for the 10week internship is provided for each intern. Mileage reimbursement will be provided for travel to and from orientation and the final presentation day. Housing or housing allowance is not provided.
