Organization Description:
Since 1981 the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Parks Conservancy) has served as the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service collaborating with the Presidio Trust partners donors and the community to support the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). The GGNRA stretches across three Bay Area counties north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge and includes iconic places such as Muir Woods National Monument Fort Point National Historic Site Alcatraz Island Crissy Field Mori Point Lands End and the Presidio of San Francisco.

Department Description:
The Interpretive Centers and Sales Department is responsible for developing and operating visitor centers throughout the Golden Gate National Parks providing visitor information orientation and other direct services. Conservancy Interpretive Centers provide educational functional and proprietary park merchandise along with changing park exhibits. The department develops park books maps and interpretive and branded products manages warehousing and distribution operates the Muir Woods Fee Collection program and develops and operates the Conservancys online sales and wholesale programs. Interpretive Centers include Alcatraz Park Stores Muir Woods Visitor Center Lands End Lookout Warming Hut Fort Point Park Store Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center and Presidio Visitor Center.
Position Overview:
The Sales Associate II is responsible for supporting management by delivering outstanding visitor services selling interpretive merchandise and books to help achieve sales goals maintaining the visual store and merchandising standards assisting with inventory management cash and safe handling and the opening and closing procedures at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center. Additionally this role will be trained and able to provide information about park history and trails San Francisco landmarks and the GG Parks Conservancy. All candidates must be willing to work a
flexible schedule that may include both weekend days and holidays. Schedules may vary by site and by season.
This is a fulltime benefitted position.
Reports To: Retail Manager I
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Rolemodel for welcoming engaging and delivering the highest standard of service to all visitors.
Answer all visitor questions with courtesy accuracy and appropriateness.
Focused on helping store and staff achieve daily weekly and monthly sales goals.
Maintain positive and respectful relationships with all internal and external partners (GGNPC NPS U.S. Park Police Park Partners Presidio Trust GGBHTD etc..
Assist with inventory management including unpacking tagging restocking and merchandising products and publications.
Maintain a clean and organized store including office backroom and storage spaces refilling supplies as needed.
Sweep and remove trash from exterior of store and assisting with trash and recycling as needed.
Work independently opening and closing store reconciling cash drawers counting safe facilitating change orders for each register making cash drops and preparing and handing over deposits to Garda.
Assist managers with yearend inventory counts.
In the absence of managers and supervisors (or at their direction) the SAII is responsible for monitoring and ensuring smooth daily operations handling visitor concerns running sales floor and supervising staff delegating tasks administering breaks and being a liaison with park partners.
Act as rolemodel for staff and provides feedback to managers and supervisors about Sales Associate performance.
Assist managers with processing invoices for payment and efficiently deal with problem shipments and invoices.
Assist in training staff as needed.
Assist managers and supervisors with other assigned job duties.
Communicate effectively and promptly with managers and supervisors about product and supply needs.
Report any maintenance related issues to site managers supervisors or appropriate Conservancy colleagues or Park partner including at Lands End Lookout the authority to independently open and close public restrooms during store hours due to maintenance or health concerns.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Two years retail experience or equivalent preferred.
Some supervisory experience preferred.
Excellent visitor service skills and sales ability
Must be professional flexible reliable and able to perform job duties independently with minimal supervision.
Accurate and efficient cashiering and cash handling experience.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Must be sensitive to visitor needs and concerns and enjoy working in a busyretail environment with high visitor interaction and conversation.
Must have an interest in and ability to share about the history natural history and trails of their national park work site with visitors.
Retail bookstore museum and park ranger experience preferred.
Education and/or Experience:
High school degree or equivalent preferred.
Previous retail or comparable experience in working with the public.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
Work is performed in a retail stockroom and office setting.
Work is primarily performed standing or walking.
Work requires squatting kneeling and climbing (short step ladder).
Frequently lifts carries and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Pay Rate (Grade)/Benefits: Pay rate is $23.50/hour (Grade 9. Benefits include free medical dental and vision plans for employee and family; vacation time plus holidays personal and sick days; Employee Assistance Program employermatched Commuter Program employee discounts and more.
