Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

How youll make an impact
The EHS Specialist will communicate and contribute to the development of EHS programs policies and training. This sustainability role has primary responsibility for and maintenance of EHS programs that manage mitigate and where possible eliminate EHS risks to Niowaves employees contractors facilities and communities in which the company operates.
What you will work on
  • Provides advice in the development planning and implementation of environmental health safety and sustainability programs across all Niowave locations.
  • Collaborates closely with Radiation Safety team to assure alignment between Rad Safety and EHS policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and update EHS policies and procedures in compliance with local state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Develop standardized environmental and safety compliance tools that will educate and assist management teams to better identify and correct safety hazards.
  • Conducts ongoing data and risk analyses to trend and identify known and/or emerging EHS risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Leads continuous assessments of EHS hazards and risks and provides assistance where specific technical expertise is required to meet applicable regulations policies procedures and programs.
  • Leads the incident investigation processes (including nearmiss/injury); conducts root cause analysis prepares investigation report results identifies and implements corrective and preventative measures to eliminate repeat incidents.

  • Strong understanding and experience in EHS Management Systems and their successful implementation; Substantive knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Strong technical ability to work collaborate and negotiate with government officials consultants and other thirdparty stakeholders.
  • Ability to write complex correspondence regulatory compliance reports engaging training materials along with excellent written verbal and presentation skills.
  • Resilient selfstarter who expertly performs in both a teamoriented collaborative environment and independently.
Required education and experience
  • Bachelors Degree in a related discipline (prefer Environmental Sciences Occupational Health Engineering Biology Chemistry or Industrial Hygiene); or equivalent level of education experience and skills.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in EHS in manufacturing or production operations.

  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • HAZWOPER Training
  • Emergency Management Experience
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Training
  • Certified Safety Professional or similar
  • Experience working with radioactive material and understanding NRC requirements.
  • Experience working in a startup environment with bottoms up build of full EHS program.
  • Knowledgeable in cGMP regulations.
Other things to note
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • FullTime Salary/Exempt position.
  • The companys standard operating hours are Monday thru Friday 6a 6p with production related activities requiring 24/7/365 shifts.
  • This position will have regular working hours during M F with an expectation of adjusting to meet with managers and employees working outside of the standards operating hours as needed.
  • Niowave has multiple locations within the Lansing area. Travel between locations is expected in the role.
