Job Description
Expression is seeking a Sr Data Engineer to support the continued growth of our Data Science Department. Reporting directly to a data team manager this role is responsible for designing and implementing highimpact data architecture and engineering solutions. The ideal candidate thrives in a highly technical collaborative environment and excels at delivering measurable results under tight deadlines.
Location:
- Department of Commerce (NTIA) 23 days/week onsite).
- Travel Requirement: 10 for user validation events and training in DC/VA/MD Metropolitan area is required
Security Clearance:
- US Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain Secret clearance or higher
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the design development testing and documentation of software code and data pipelines (batch and streaming) for data extraction ingestion transformation cleaning correlation and analytics.
- Architect develop and scale new data services/products ensuring robust performance and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with crossfunctional teams including Program Managers Subject Matter Experts Architects Engineers and Data Scientists to understand customer requirements develop prototypes and optimize existing data services/products.
- Champion best practices in Data Engineering driving technical excellence and mentoring junior team members.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of white papers and proposals supporting business growth through technical expertise.
- Provide insights on product development and longterm data management approaches
- Participate in research case studies and prototype development to explore and leverage cuttingedge technologies.
- Help to recruit mentor and retain top data science and engineering talent.
Required Qualifications:
- 6 years of experience bringing databases data integration and data analytics/ML technologies to production with a Bachelors degree in Computer Science/Data Science/Computer Engineering or relevant field or 4 years of experience with a PhD/MS.
- Current Security certification (or must obtain within 30 days)
- Mastery in developing software code in one or more programming languages (Python JavaScript Java Matlab etc.
- Expert knowledge in databases (SQL NoSQL Graph etc. and data architecture (Data Lake Lakehouse)
- Knowledgeable in machine learning/AI methodologies
- Strong writing and oral communication skills to deliver design documents technical reports and presentations to a variety of audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Azure solutions (Databricks Spark Streaming OpenAI Service).
- Experience with PostgreSQL ElasticSearch MongoDB and graph databases.
- Experience with GenAI enabled daily workflows (coding testing analytics).
- Experience with one or more SQLonHadoop technology (Spark SQL Hive Impala Presto etc.
- Experience in shortrelease cycles and the full software lifecycle
- Experience with Agile development methodology (e.g. Scrum)
