Performs receptionist registration and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions.
Reports to: Patient Access Supervisor
Ensures that all necessary demographic billing and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.
Distributes and explains forms documents and educational handouts to patients or family members.
Meets with patient or patients caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.
Communicates with admitting physicians office nursing unit staff and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.
Maintains current knowledge of all rules and regulations governing third party admissions/registrations and precertification requirements
Verifies insurance eligibility and creates estimates based on services rendered including copays deductibles and outofpocket amounts.
Verifies precertification/authorization on file matches test/procedure/services being performed.
Maintains an acceptable registration error ratio & collection goal.
Minimum EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent Required
Minimum EducationTwo years of college or medical office specialist education Preferred
