Job Description

Supervisor of Facilities and Construction

Position provides the management and coordination of the maintenance of over 1 million square feet of school and administrative building space and maintenance of grounds for all school board owned properties. Position acts as the administrative liaison to senior leadership for all items related to the maintenance of school board facilities and related construction.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Provide for the supervision of all school board maintenance crews


Provide for the support and joint supervision of all school custodial staffs


Manage and determine the workload for each maintenance worker on a daily basis


Plan and issue work schedules


Provide for unplanned/emergency operational and maintenance needs


Procure materials and supplies in accordance with law and policy for all custodial and maintenance needs


Provide for the procurement and oversight of outside contractors to include the development of specifications for solicitation participating in the formal procurement process to issue awards and administrating awarded contracts to ensure that all requirements are met accordingly for those projects related to the facilities maintenance or construction of school buildings.


Provide for the appropriate fiscal management of budget lines assigned to the supervisor according to law and policy to include annual budget development for regular operating maintenance


Ability to manage a portfolio of projects in excess of $5 million in value.


Assist in the development of a capital improvements plan to include the identification of major maintenance and construction projects by type and proposing timelines and cost estimates in order to present a comprehensive plan for covering all school system needs


Coordinate provide training and implementation for safety practices required by law and policy


Provide for quality work practices and performance and provide for the evaluation of staff relative to this goal


Assist the Superintendent to formulate and recommend policies procedures and standards and practices to be followed in maintenance and operation of facilities


Assure school division compliance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)


Assure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding the building and fiscal plant operation including compliance with VDH ADA NFC local state and federal codes


Attend School Board meetings and prepare reports as requested by the Superintendent and


Other duties as assigned by the division superintendent.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all maintenance workers.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Five years experience in the maintenance field with supervision and management experience preferred.


Candidate must possess a high school diploma or GED


Experience or responsibilities in the following areas is preferred:


Supervision of personnel

Inventory control

Cost accounting

Budgeting record keeping


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Candidate must possess a high school diploma or GED (also see above) Project Management Certificate preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Administrative salary scaleGrade 2 260 days per year. On call as needed by the Superintendent.
