Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Professor (Applied Trumpet)

Department: Music

Campus Location:Washburn University

Position Summary:
Washburn Universitys Department of Music invites applications for the position of Applied Trumpet. The position will begin August 1 2025. This position is a ninemonth tenuretrack appointment as Assistant Professor. A completed doctorate is necessary for tenuretrack appointment.

Each selected candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University including a dedication to developing teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.

Essential Functions:
Fulfill teaching expectations associated with tenuretrack appointment. Teach 12hours per semester (either inperson or online according to departmental needs) or equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook.
Teach and develop undergraduate applied trumpet majors classes and seminars as assigned and as dependent upon department needs which may include brass techniques chamber ensemble trumpet seminar general education courses or some combination of classes consistent with the candidates training and interests.
Fulfill service expectations associated with tenuretrack appointment by engaging in recruitment activities in the department university and profession to include school visits clinics networking with local music educators participation in oncampus recruitment events/festivals.
Develop and maintain an active portfolio of scholarly research/creative activities and service including a national and international profile.
Direct Faculty Brass Quintet and serve as a member of the WU Faculty Jazz Quintet.
Perform additional jobrelated duties as assigned or as appropriate. Additional responsibilities may include the advising of undergraduate brass majors and participation on department committees.

Required Qualifications:
Doctorate in Music or Doctorate in Musical Arts; ABD applicants will be considered with completion of doctorate by August 1 2026.
A successful record of professional performance in classical and jazz styles.
A successful record of recruiting and maintaining a studio at the collegiate level.
At least oneyear of collegiate level teaching in applied trumpet.
Demonstrated dedication to developing teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.
Official educational transcripts are required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
At least three years of collegiatelevel teaching experience.
Experience developing and directing community youth trumpet programs.
Experience teaching/coaching and performing in chamber ensembles.
