Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW:Event Security Officers (ESOs) at SAM provide customer service and security by implementing security policies and procedures related to the protection of the collection the facilities and staff and visitors by inperson monitoring of museum activities including but not limited to programming fundraising events and venue experiences across all sites.

FSLA STATUS: NonExempt
REPORTS TO: Security Supervisor
COMPENSATION: $24.18 / hour
WORKING SCHEDULE:We are looking to hire multiple parttime ESOs with the option to work anywhere from 1020 hours per week. Hours are variable depending on event needs. Must be available some evenings sometimes as late as midnight. Schedules are set 3 weeks in advance of dates worked.
BARGAINING UNIT: This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement between the Seattle Art Museum and the SAM Visitors Services Officers union.
BENEFITS:Part Time VariableSAM Staff can participate in SAMs 403b retirement plan and begin receiving a guaranteed 3 employer contribution following 1 year & 1000 hours worked. PTV Staff have access to paid time off for vacation sick leave bereavement leave and jury duty per accrual and prorated schedules. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide security for galleries public spaces meeting rooms offices storage areas traffic corridors and queues by continuously patrolling or posting these areas
  • Regulate and control access to private spaces
  • Observe ondisplay collection for changes or inappropriate touches of any kind reporting all incidents to Security Supervisor
  • Report any building conditions requiring attention to Security Supervisor
  • Cooperate with Visitor Experience Membership Volunteers and Venue Experience to learn andconvey Museum information to enhance and support visitor experience
  • Ensure patrons and vendors are following Museum policies and procedure
  • Maintain working knowledge of current policies procedures guidelines processes and securitysystem
  • Escort contracted workers and vendors through restricted access spaces
  • Ensure nonmuseum workers stay within designated workspaces and provide access throughlocked doors
  • Report incidents notable events and respond to calls for emergency assistance
  • Complete written incident reports (IRs) detailing incidents art touches damage and buildingand facilities maintenance issues
  • Provide superior customer service proactively prevent situations from escalating unnecessarilydeescalate situations and mentor/train staff on utilizing deescalation techniques
  • Build and maintain cooperative respectful and professional relationships across theorganization including with visitors staff volunteers and vendors
  • Participate in creating a welcoming inclusive and accessible environment for all
  • Participate in training programs for emergency situations such as and earthquake evacuationactive shooter preparedness
  • Participate in regular emergency drills First Aid/CPR/AED training and deescalation training

  • Use independent judgment and discretion to make immediate decisions related to enforcementof regulations by carrying out established policies and procedures for the security and safety ofpeople the collection and the facility in a calm professional and tactful manner
  • Must be able to work in potentially crowded and noisy environments
  • Capacity to work in a fast paced multitasked environment and the ability to be receptive tochanging priorities
  • Must have the ability to selfmanage assigned tasks
  • Remain calm in challenging circumstances
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues
  • Represent the Museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to pass and maintain Security Background Check clearance
  • Adherence to policies and procedures outlined in Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Must have evening and weekend availability
  • Adhere to and adopt museum policies in a positive and professional manner

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure: Work areas are primarily inside in a climatecontrolled environment with moderatebackground noise. Workspaces may include outdoor areas. May have contact with hostile or abusivemembers of the public. Work during events may have higher noise levels.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Stationary Work: Approximately 5 of time is spent stationary while working at a desk. Balance of time(approximately 95 is spent moving around the work area. Occasional extended periods of standingmay be required. Must be able to ascend/descend stairs in highrise building
Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication in English with the public andcoworkers is necessary.
Vision: Ability to effectively use a computer screen and interpret printed materials memos and otherappropriate paperwork.
Office Work: Ability to effectively and regularly operate a computer keyboard telephone and radio.
