Job Description

Job Summary: This position is responsible for providing educational leadership through the Waterloo Community School District curriculum and to facilitate learning that challenges and supports all students in an equitable and safe environment and that meets Board Policy 102.0 (Educational Philosophy) and Board and building educational goals. This position delivers the curriculum selected by the district congruent with the districtadopted curricula scope and sequence in a manger congruent with district expectations for teaching strategies approaches and methodologies. All criteria are Iowa Teaching Standards except for those denoted with an asterisk * which are Waterloo Community Schools criteria.

Hiring Specifications:

Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing Science teaching strategies.
  • Developing teaching aid and materials.
  • Planning lessons as per the grade levels.
  • Explaining science concepts and principles to the students in a comprehensible manner.
  • Preparing and delivering lecture sessions.
  • Overseeing the science laboratory activities.
  • Assigning projects and assignments to the students.
  • Maintaining examination grades and attendance.
  • Participating in the science exhibitions.
  • Helping students with their science projects.
  • Attending meetings workshops and conferences.
  • Performing administrative tasks as and when required.
  • Paying extra attention to the struggling students.
  • Creating a fun and engaging classroom environment.
  • Arranging field trips and other fun activities.
  • Taking feedback from the students as well as parents.
  • Reporting students progress to the parents and higher management.
  • Maintaining reports for future reference.
  • Researching modern techniques in explaining concepts.
  • Attending parentteacher meetings.
  • Organizing events to showcase the students talents.
  • Staying updated with the latest developments in teaching techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Secondary Science teaching.
  • Proven work experience as a Science Teacher Teacher or a similar role in the Education department.
  • A professional teaching license is mandatory.
  • Formal training or apprenticeship will be an advantage.
  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management abilities.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge and experience using various teaching aids.
  • Ability to work in tense situations.
  • Good interpersonal and time management skills.
  • A patient and creative individual.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools and online classroom management software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Education

  • Appropriate degree(s) earned from an accredited college or university

Certification

  • Appropriate current state endorsement or certification

  • Para educators assisting in the classroom

f. Works with other staff and building and district leadership in analysis of student
progress.

In addition to these responsibilities teachers assigned to special federal and state programs or grants must abide by the federal legislation and the rules and regulations that govern
program/grant compliance. Specifically:

TITLE I Public Law 103382 the rules and regulations that govern Title I Helping
Disadvantaged Children Meet High Standards of the Improving Americas School Act of
1994 and the Districts policies and procedures for implementation.
SPECIAL EDUCATION Public Law 94142 amended by IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and Iowa Administrative Code the federal and state rules and regulations to govern the operation and administration of special education and the Districts policies and procedures for implementation.
