Job Title: Licensed Specialist in School Psychology* INTERNSHIP
Exemption Status:Exempt/Professional

Dept./School: Special Education
Primary Purpose:
Assist schools in the development of appropriate educational programs for students by conducting full and individual evaluations providing direct counseling and social skills instruction consultative psychological services and conducting and/or participating in ARD meetings for students while under the supervision of a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree and enrollment in an approved University training program with established readiness for enrollment in the Universitys designated internship experience course.
Curriculum and academic training leading to Licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as an LSSP*.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual emotional and behavioral functioning for educational purposes
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies including behavior management interventions
Knowledge of psychosocial development
Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Must be proficient in using Windows Operating System as well as Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word Excel and Powerpoint) and Google Drive services
Experience:
Practicum experience in public schools preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assessment
1. Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual emotional and behavioral functioning of referred students. Determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations.
2. Develop psychological evaluation reports Functional Behavior Assessment Counseling Behavior and Social Skills IEPs instructional IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans.
3. Conduct or participate in the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
4. May manage a caseload and implement the special education assessment process for students on assigned campuses.
Consultation
5. Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results. Conduct group and individual counseling sessions and facilitative therapy for students with diagnosed problems. May deliver short term services for students such as crisis counseling suicide prevention and behavior consultation.
6. Serves as liaison between the campus/district and community resources in getting help for children with special needs.
7. Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students interpretation of assessment data and implementation of behavior intervention plans in managing disruptive students.
8. Consult with psychologists psychiatrists medical doctors and community agencies concerning intellectual emotional and behavioral functioning of students as needed.
9. Present staff development training in assigned schools to enable school personnel to identify and work more effectively with students with emotional social and behavioral disturbances.
Program Management
10. Develop a continuing evaluation of psychological services and assessment procedures and make changes based on findings.
11. Participate in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
12. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required including case records test results statistical data and test inventories.
13. Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

14. Seeks accepts and responds to evaluative feedback from colleagues and utilizes such information to improve performance.
15. Keeps abreast with the profession through participating in a variety of professional development activities (e.g. professional journals using audio/video tapes attending workshops and conferences).

16. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
17. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) occasional heaving lifting 45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting nonambulatory students
Environment: Exposure to biological hazards bacteria and communicable diseases; may require districtwide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure

*The correct title for the person holding the Licensed Specialist in School Psychology is Licensed Specialist in School Psychology or LSSP. Only individuals who meet the requirements of Title 22 Texas Administrative Code 465.6 may refer to themselves as School Psychologists (i.e. hold a doctorate in area of specialization).
