Position Overview:
The Welder fabricates and assembles metal structures and equipment through the use of welders cutters shapers and measuring tools. This individual will report directly to the Fleet Maintenance Manager
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Utilizes plasma gas or electric arc in welding metallic and composite materials together
- Oversees the repairs of luggers and rolloff boxes
- Operates manual and semiautomatic welding equipment in vertical horizontal or overhead positions
- Uses power saws chipping knives and hand shears to perform cutting Repairs structures by dismantling reshaping and reassembling metal components using cutting torches and hand tools
- Monitors work equipment to ensure usage is within optimum temperature to avoid overheating or expansion
- Prepares metal surfaces by cleaning with chemical solutions and wire brushes to remove impurities such as scale rust grease and moisture
- Designs patterns and models for welding projects using specifications contained in a blueprint
- Directs electrodes on or across metal workpieces to melt bend or straighten them
- Mounts and secures workpieces on production equipment using cranes hoists or banding machines
- Paints protective coat on finished products
- Joins designs fabricates and repairs equipment structures and various types of metal objects using an array of welding techniques such as electric arc and oxygenacetylene
- Analyzes blueprints plans and drawings to determine measurements plan layout and sequence of welding assignments.
- Determines the best equipment and welding method based on the specific job requirements
- Recommends supplies and materials and estimates the cost of materials and labor
- Operates drill presses grinders power saws and other hand tools
- Inspects and tests welded structures and surfaces to discover flaws
- Uses and maintains equipment responsibly as to not compromise safety
Desired Characteristics:
- High School Diploma or related equivalent experience in the role
- 24 years of welding experience is also necessary for the welder job
- Previously have passed a welding competency tests in order to obtain relevant welding fabricator certification
- Solid math skills in order to carry out complex calculations to determine the dimension and configuration of a welding project
- Able to operate and utilize a range of power and hand tools in carrying out welding activities
- Ability to read and understand welding safety manuals codes specifications diagrams blueprints and operating procedures in order to perform the job safely
- Basic writing skills are needed to successfully complete daily logs inspection sheets or reports for the manager
- Welders should be able to work independently and with other people as well; they are responsible for mentoring and training new team members informing and demonstrating how to perform a task to other workers and participating in formal discussions about work processes that bring improvements; that said excellent communication skills are required
- Must have the ability to perform the physical tasks of the job such as working in elevated and difficult positions confined spaces as well as frequent walking bending standing and frequent lifting of 5075 lbs. 50 lbs. alone and requesting a team lift for more than 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions such as extreme heat or cold dusty dirty and/or wet conditions
- The Company desires a candidate who has shown a stable job history dependable attendance practices and whose references can state is a trustworthy individual
- Candidate must pass a preemployment physical background and credit check
- Able to fulfill flexible scheduling requirements as determined by the manager and / or business needs of the operation
