Packaging Technologist

Location: Manchester

Working Pattern: Site Based

What will this role achieve

This role will be based at our manufacturing site in Stockport Manchester to provide compliance data on packaging against authorised and documented methods reporting to the Site SQSE (Safety Quality Security & Environment) Manager.

As a key member of the factory Quality and Compliance team the Packaging Technologist will support the effective daytoday management of packaging used on site; providing compliance data on packaging against authorised and documented methods and providing support for the improvement and maintenance of packaging quality standards.

What will be your key deliverables

  • Based upon an agreed packaging surveillance sampling schedule:
    • Carry out compliance checks on printed packaging against specification with a focus on print Brand Master spectral targets based upon an agreed surveillance sampling schedule
    • Capture and store trend data of spectral colour assessment in QA repository. Discuss and share trends with Senior Artwork Technical Manager
    • Sample and visually assess printed packaging against target Epson proofs for visual differences and print defects.
    • Sample and assess packaging against specified specification parameters in accordance with the sampling standards and retailer requirements.
  • Supports the site with coding equipment maintenance and data updates.
  • Authority to hold and release noncompliant defective packaging material for use in production.
  • Reviews makes recommendation and supports implementation of appropriate changes and preventative measures.
  • Supports continuous improvement through identification of areas for improvement involvement in projects and through support in issue resolution driving a reduction in risks and ensuring best practice.
  • Supports all KPI monitoring by collating data and information
  • Support issue investigations with escalation to SQSE Manager or where appropriate request support from the Senior Artwork Technical Manager
  • Provide data for nonconformance documentation to supplier and raise packaging material VNCs.
  • Maintain and store master standard packaging materials for retention.
  • Act as a member of internal audit and traceability teams with initial focus on packaging quality compliance.
  • Participate in all external audits and visits providing packaging technical data.

  • Ability to travel occasionally for supplier audits

  • Needs to pass Munsell Colour Test

Desirable

  • BSc Degree qualification
  • Any previous experience in quality or compliance
  • Food safety level 3
  • HACCP Level 3
  • Lead Auditor Qualification

What will the interview process be

  • 1st stage interview 45 minutes competencybased interview based on our company values and your experiences.
  • 2nd stage interview 60 minutes a technical interview to understand your skill set/case study or presentation interview.

pladis does also use both Psychometric and Aptitude tests to support our processes so you may be asked to complete these as part of your process. Some processes may differ but we will keep you updated!
