The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies universities nonprofit organizations consortia and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization astrodynamics orbital debris navigation failure analysis mission assurance cost and schedule assessment and economic market analysis SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.
The Digital Systems Engineering Department (DSED part of SED is charged with
helping our customers successfully adopt integrate and utilize digital system models methods tools and best practices as part of their systems realization lifecycle processes through DE and MBSE research & innovation prototyping analysis training and advisory functions.
We are seeking an Sr. Member of the Technical Staff with a focus on Model Based Systems Engineering. The ideal candidate for this position will work individually or as part of a program office team to research identify and implement MBSE approaches for new and existing space and defense systems and advise internal Aerospace and external government customers on the effective use of MBSE methodologies tools and practices to achieve their desired system realization and optimization outcomes.
Work Model
This is a fulltime position requiring onsite work at least 34 days per week.
What Youll Be Doing
Provide Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) thought leadership and expertise to the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) encompassing multiple NNSA labs plants and sites.
Work with an advanced team of Aerospace engineering and technology reachback staff to develop and analyze digital system models representing multiple facets of the NSE architecture.
Provide advanced MBSE expertise in leading the development of model profiles modeling methodologies architecture frameworks and systems engineering processes for several NSE system acquisition and sustainment programs.
Perform MBSErelated research studies and effectively document and present analysis results findings and proposed recommendations to sponsors.
Lead the development of domainspecific ontologies and modeling language profiles modeling tool plugins used to capture visualize and analyze digital models of NSE systems throughout their lifecycle from concept definition design and production fielding support and decommission.
Define modelbased review requirements and update the NSE systems engineering process to utilize advanced MBSE techniques.
Author and present technical papers on MBSE topics of interest to Aerospace community of interest (COI) groups and professional technical societies working to advance the state of MBSE practices through research and innovation initiatives.
What You Need to Be Successful
B.S. degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (Aerospace Systems Electrical Mechanical etc. Computer Science or related technical field.
4 years of experience in systems engineering in two or more technical areas including CONOPs development requirements definition architecture & design system analysis and system integration & test.
Proficient with one or more descriptive modeling languages SysML UAFML UML etc. methodologies (OOSEM SysMOD MagicGrid etc. and tools (Cameo Sparx Rhapsody GENESYS etc..
Familiarity with one or more architecture frameworks DoDAF UAF TOGAF).
Experience developing and reviewing models representing systems at the SoS system and subsystem levels.
Ability to clearly explain complex concepts to customers and fellow employees.
A selfstarter who can lead the technical work of MBSE project teams.
This position requires an active Top Secret or DOEQ security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Aerospace Systems Electrical Mechanical etc. Computer Science or related technical discipline.
Some experience with developing ontology or knowledge models.
Knowledge of graph theory and graph database analysis and visualization tools
Knowledge of digital engineering concepts and practical experience developing digital engineering strategies and plans.
Teaching experience especially in technical subjects.
Relevant OMG SysML or INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certifications.
