Creature is an integrated designbuild firm based in Birmingham AL. Our focus is on developing a differentiated delivery platform that improves the lives of our employees and customers. We are focused on the delivery of facilities utilizing the Design Manufacture Construct (DMC) methodology. DMC replaces the centuryold siloed approach of the Architecture Engineering and Construction Industry. A major component of our platform is our inhouse Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing trades.

As an intern you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our projects success. Our team is motivated to support our interns growth into wellrounded leaders. The interns work in a collaborative team environment under the leadership of the Project Managers and perform duties like an Assistant Project Manager while changing the landscape of the construction industry through thoughtful design and innovative building practices.

Job Description:

The responsibilities and job skills learned are primarily dependent upon the individual interns drive determination and ability to learn and function on a multidisciplinary project team. A typical day can range from assisting with generating an estimate coordinating scheduled activities at the project site and/or helping to come up with engineering solutions. A successful intern will learn how to estimate projects and scopes of work work directly with vendors to purchase material and equipment and support the field team and customer needs through scheduling and site logistics management. Experienced successful interns will have the opportunity to run jobs from inception through construction and final job closeout under the guidance of their Project Manager.

Role Expectations:

  • Interns will work hand in hand with various Project Managers to manage the general construction mechanical electrical and plumbing work.
  • Interns will coordinate with vendors to schedule and procure material and equipment purchases for the various jobs.
  • Interns will regularly update scheduling for project work multiple times over the course of the week.
  • Interns will interface with our innovative production system.
  • Interns will work with Project Managers to review project drawings and develop estimates and proposals.
  • Interns will work with Project Managers to obtain review and if needed provide submittals for various projects.
  • Interns will regularly survey project sites for adherence to Creatures safety quality and productivity standards.
  • Interns will work with Project Managers daily to perform various tasks for multiple projects and service jobs including generating POs making sketches asbuilts and performing takeoffs and developing closeout documentation.

  • Must be a selfstarter with ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Maintain a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate across a diverse group of people (PMs field staff fabrication shops vendors subcontractors customers etc.

Candidates must be able to complete at least 12 weeks of fulltime work. Students must be enrolled in an internship program at an accredited university majoring in Mechanical Electrical Industrial Engineering MET or Construction Management/Building Science. Candidates understand that they may be at the office in Birmingham Alabama or be placed at a project anywhere in the Southeastern US.
