The Radiation Oncology Coding Specialist is responsible for ensuring all services rendered in the clinical setting are captured timely coded accurately and complies with the Official Coding Guidelines in ICD10CM and CPT coding conventions to assign for diagnoses and procedure codes for Fred Hutch outpatienthospital facility services. This position will collaborate with the denials prevention team to resolve codingrelated denials and work closely with the authorizations team to ensure proper authorizations are requested. This position will code and abstract from the electronic medical record to support the appropriate reimbursement clinician documentation improvement clinical effectiveness outcome studies and research to meet regulatory accreditation requirements for state and federal reporting and other external reporting purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the Radiation Oncology facility and professional revenue charge capture.
  • Research appropriate documentation standards and coding standards to maximize reimbursement of services rendered.
  • Analyzes and review medical record documentation for the purpose of assigning code sets to the documentation for submission to insurance payers.
  • Queries physicians physician assistants advance practice provider and other clinicians for documentation and charge capture accuracy.
  • Knowledge and expertise necessary to perform the query process to clarify and confirm clinical documentation.
  • Initiate highlevel decisionmaking by auditing facility services according to the rules and regulations established through CMS and the AMA.
  • Coding encounters with the proper codes and modifiers for billable facility services utilizing ICD10CM CPT and HCPCS codes sets in accordance with coding guidelines federal and state regulations.
  • Codes for 100 of medical records/encounters for each assigned clinic or encounter type with 95 coding accuracy as demonstrated by quarterly coding audit.
  • Codes for 100 of medical records/encounters for each assigned clinic or encounter type daily with recommended productivity standard as set forth by Coding Manager.
  • Utilize time management to ensure that all codes are audited and correctly entered or added. All edits are resolved timely.
  • Alert coding educator supervisor and/or manager of coding in identifying and analyzing problems or issues that prevent coding of encounters.
  • Maintain Continue Education Units (CEUs): For credentials/certifications and education to stay current with all coding and skills to accurately abstract and code medical encounters and records.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 4 years Radiation Oncology professional and outpatient facility coding (ICD10CM HCPCS and CPT) and facility modifiers in Mosaiq.
  • Prior experience reviewing clinical documentationand entering manipulating and tagging charges in Mosaiq.
  • ROCC and CPC or COC or CCSP
  • Working knowledge of all facets of the role relevant regulations and organization and departmental policies and procedures for Radiation Oncology services.
  • Analysis & Critical Thinking: problem solving; analysis; independent decision making and judgment; time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks; highlevel of organization; detail oriented.
  • Effectively manage own time conflicting priorities stress and professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced multisite environment with demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and demands from a variety of stakeholders and sites.
  • Ability to collaborate across various levels of management departments and teams.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans CCI and LCD/NCDs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including effective verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology Anatomy and Physiology.

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • RHIT or RHIA
  • Experience in Hematology/Oncology outpatient facility coding (ICD10CM HCPCS and CPT) and facility modifiers.
  • Epic HB Module
  • Encoders

The hourly pay range for this position is from $30.65 to $43.64 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
