Position Title: Substitute Teacher
Reports to: Assistant Principal/Principal
Position Summary: The role of the Substitute Teacher is to maintain classroom discipline and to carry on classroom procedures as if he/she were the regular teacher. The Substitute Teacher will work in the absence of the regular teacher aiding students in their daily tasks and helping to ensure their understanding of the subject matter being covered. FWAFA substitute teachers follow the regular teachers lesson plans providing students with appropriate educational activities and experiences. He/she has the same responsibilities and the same duties as the regular teacher including but not limited to dropoff and pickup duty.
Essential Job Function:
- Report to school office upon arrival and log time in the Substitute Teacher binder
- Use materials provided to attain lesson goals
- Direct the classroom accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals outlined in lesson plans
- Follow lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning and that encourages students to participate
- Modify teaching styles to fit the learning styles of various students
- Take attendance according to the procedures of the school keep classroom and work orderly and maintain normal classroom rhythms
- Return instructional materials equipment and keys to proper place
- Comply with all procedures guidelines and policies of the school at all times
- Ensure adequate student supervision to assure health welfare and safety inside and outside the classroom
- Report all student injuries accidents illnesses and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
- Maintain a professional attitude in all manner of conduct with students faculty and parents including a commitment to confidentiality
- Performs arrival and dismissal duties as assigned
- Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/state policies and practices
Essential Job Requirements:
- Education High school diploma required; college degree preferred
- Required Skills and Capabilities Strong command of English language; detail oriented and able to follow written and/or oral instructions; willing and able to work standing for most of the day; able to communicate effectively with other personnel and faculty
- Preferred Skills & Capabilities Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
- Physical Requirements Ability to carry up to 25 lbs.; valid driver license
