Histology Supervisor Mercy Lorain Hospital

• Full Time Scheduled for 40 Weekly Hours
• Shift Time Days/Afternoons

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Supervisor Lab Pathology is responsible for coordinating daily operations including organizing staffing directing reviewing and monitoring of all histology and cytology functions. This position works closely with other laboratory section leaders laboratory management and pathologists. They ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Essential Job Functions

Utilizes working knowledge of procedures and theories in all areas of responsibilities.

Hires onboards and administers disciplinary actions of personnel as needed.

Completes schedule and manages timekeeping.

Implements policies and procedures as relates to specific area.

Oversees training and orientation of personnel.

Maintains standards of accreditation for their area.

Performs regular discussion on priorities and performance to staff via touch bases checkins etc.

Licensing/Certification

Must possess one of the following (by a nationally recognized certification agency preferably ASCP):

HT Histotechnician Certification

HTL Histotechnologist Certification

CT Cytotechnologist Certification

PA Pathologist Assistant Certification

Education

High School/GED (required)

Associates Medical Laboratory Science/Biology/Chemistry/Microbiology (preferred)

Bachelors Medical Laboratory Science/Biology/Chemistry/Microbiology (preferred)

Work Experience

5 years experience in a pathology laboratory setting (required)

Previous experience in a leadership position in a pathology lab environment (preferred)

Working Conditions

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur

May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse

May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights

May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids*

May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials*

May have periods of constant interruptions

General office environment

Required to car travel to offsite locations occasionally in adverse weather conditions

Prolonged periods of working alone

Other: Exposure to fumes and odors
