Job Description

Rochambeau The French International School of Washington DC is seeking a parttime Secondary School SES (Economics) Teacher for the school year. This position includes teaching Economics for 9 to 13 hours per week.

Location:Bethesda MD

Job Type:Parttime; Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicable

Salary Information:The fulltime salary range is $49911$109469 per the Faculty CBA Salary Scale. For this parttime role the salary will be prorated. Teachers will be hired and employed in the highest category of teaching staff to which they are entitled in accordance with the degrees and certifications that they hold and the subjects and levels that they teach.

The duties and responsibilities listed are intended to illustrate the range of tasks that may be performed in this role. Job Summary:

The position includes teaching Economics in the IB Diploma Programme (DP1 and DP2. Depending on the schools needs and the candidates background the assignment may also include teaching Connaissance du Monde a component of the Baccalaurat Franais International (BFI). Both courses are taught in English.

As an international and bilingual school we welcome applications from candidates with experience in multicultural settings and a strong understanding of international curricula.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach IB Economics and if assigned Connaissance du Monde following the frameworks of the IB Diploma Programme and the French Baccalaurat Franais International (BFI).
  • Design and deliver engaging inquirybased lessons that promote critical thinking global awareness and international mindedness in alignment with IB philosophy.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans assessments and instructional materials that reflect both IB and French Bac requirements including Internal Assessments (IAs) Extended Essay guidance (if applicable) and appropriate criteriabased evaluation.
  • Accurately assess and report student performance using the IBs standards and assessment criteria and/or the official expectations of the French Bac ensuring compliance with all external evaluation regulations.
  • Create a positive inclusive and wellmanaged classroom environment that supports academic growth and student engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development student support and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Provide differentiated instruction and support including remedial guidance where needed.
  • Maintain clear and regular communication with students parents and school staff to promote academic success and wellbeing.
  • Participate in faculty meetings professional development and school events contributing to the life of an international learning community.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degree: A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Economics or a closely related field is required; a Masters or higher degree is preferred.
  • Certification: A teaching certification in Economics is strongly preferred such as certifi(e) or agrg(e) from the French Ministry of Education or an equivalent credential from a francophone country.
  • Experience: At least two years of relevant teaching experience is required.
  • Preferred Profile: Priority will be given to candidates with prior experience teaching IB Economics and/or the French Baccalaurat particularly within an international or bilingual school setting.
  • Equivalency: Candidates with a strong academic background in economics and demonstrated teaching ability may be considered instead of certification except where legal requirements apply (e.g. visa license certification).

  • Experience in an international school or crosscultural environment is desired.
  • Fluency in both French and English language.
