POSITION OVERVIEW TITLE: Multicraft/Preventative Maintenance Technician
STATUS/FLSA: Fulltime / NonExempt
DIRECT REPORTS: Fulltime: x ; Parttime
SUPERVISOR: Controls/Energy Management Specialist
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 Days. Salary determined by schedule set by the Board
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to work with mechanical personnel to maintain service and repair plumbing refrigeration electrical food service and HVAC equipment districtwide. Responsible for implementing the HVAC Electrical Plumbing and Food Service Equipment preventative maintenance program for all District mechanical equipment and providing a safe comfortable enviroment for students to learn.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1 Repair and maintain electrical food service plumbing refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
2 Remain available for emergency and unplanned events that may occur during the year.
3 Promote good public relations through professional and ethical exectuion of responsibilites.
4 Recognize equipment problems and take corrective action with emphasis on preventative maintenance and or report problems to supervisor.
5 Work from drawings specifications and catalogs to create layouts and installations.
6 Coordinate work for outside contractors and monitor to completion.
7 Maintain thorough knowledge of building management computer software.
8 Process purchase orders work order requests and material records for various jobs.
9 Maintain working knowledge of DDC and energy management controls and IAQ issues regarding HVAC systems.
10 Participate in staff development programs.
11 Repair service and maintain heating and domestic water heating boilers and associated equipment districtwide.
12 Repair service and maintain refrigeration and cooking equipment in District kitchens.
13 Repair service test and maintain backflow devices as required by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
14 Repair and maintain burglar and fire alarm systems in District locations.
15 Work with Controls Specialist to trobleshoot and PM HVAC systems.
16 Record and input preventative maintenance data into excel spreadsheets.
17 Work directly with the Controls Specialist in implementing the preventative maintenance program

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Work with IT department to assign addresses to numerous building control systems.
Operate underground pipe and wire locating device and educate other technicians in use of locator.
Provide preventative maintenance on structures equipment.
Utilize personnel lifts and trenching devices.
Test and repair fire sprinkler pumps and controllers as needed.
Repair maintain and troubleshoot cooling tower systems for buildings.
Repair and troubleshoot Geothermal systems for buildings.
Fabricate and weld special tools needed to perform duties.
Construct electronic motor starters and control syatems when needed.
Investigate and repair problems with Pneumatic Control Systems.
Repair service and maintain pressure boosting systems for potable water.
Repair maintain and service building backup generators and transfer control assemblies.
Repair and service building conditioned fresh air systems exhaust hoods and controls.
Install pipe and maintain refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
Maintain water supply systems for building equipment.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE Working knowledge of HVAC equipment kitchen equipment electrical and plumbing systems; Ability to maintain certification with EPA Refrigerant Type 1 ; Ability to troubleshoot various systems; Ability to work with limited supervision; Ability to lead and guide others; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Use computers for data entry; or handle use or repair handheld power equipment or light machinery. Use computers for word processing spreadsheets PowerPoint presentations or custom applications or operate or repair large shop equipment and machines;. Use develop or repair electronics or complex software hardware or network systems; operate install test or inspect heavy or complex machinery. EDUCATION
EXPERIENCE
LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS Completion of high school/GED. Some college experience preferred
HVAC Electrical Preventative Maintenance and Refrigerant experience preferred. Experience may be substituted for education.
REQUIRED: Valid Drivers License. EPA Certified Refrigerant Reclamation.
PREFERRED: SC DHEC Backflow Certification/Certifications/License In Field PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
