About the job

The SAS Data Management Data Acceleration team is looking for a Software Developer to join us in speeding up the connection between data and analytics. Our team enables SAS capabilities to run faster and more securely by using parallelism DBMS capabilities running in or near database and owning file access. The connection between SAS analytics and open file formats like Parquet and Iceberg has never been more important. Customers expect SAS software to read and write the most common file formats stored locally and in cloud object stores. You will use and contribute to opensource software to enable this to happen.

Our use of Agile practices means were on a predictable delivery cadence and are constantly tailoring our process to meet the needs of our team. There will be chances for you to collaborate with our peers in the Advanced Analytics and Visual Analytics divisions as we enhance our platform to better their products.

As a Software Developer you will:

  • Develop code to support open file format integration with SAS Viya
  • Design and develop highquality testable scalable software solutions within established timelines while adhering to R&D best practices and processes.
  • Actively involve other project stakeholders (e.g. managers developers product managers) to ensure implementation satisfies functional requirements.
  • Participate in project scoping and scheduling; track progress of individual tasks and alert stakeholders of issues blocking or preventing completion of tasks.
  • Ensure quality through functional unit and performance testing.
  • Make use of pytest contributing to product test suites.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in computer science or a related field
  • 5 years of software development experience developing systemlevel software
  • 5 years of C or C software development
  • 2 years of developing software for use in Kubernetes
  • 3 years of developing tools with scripting languages like bash and python

Preferred qualifications

  • 3 years of experience with multithreaded programming
  • 2 years of experience with reading and writing data with cloud object stores like ADLS and S3.
  • 1 year of DuckDB experience
  • Familiarity with using Docker
  • Familiarity with Apache Spark
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work with tech support on customer issues
  • Developing software using sprints and other Agile practices
  • Experience contributing to open source projects
