Job Description

Assistant Superintendent Job DescriptionHartford School District VTPosition Title: Assistant SuperintendentLocation: Hartford School District VermontReports to: SuperintendentPosition Status: FullTime YearRoundPOSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Except as specifically noted the following functions are considered essential to this position:Strategic Initiatives and Reporting:Assist the Superintendent in implementing Board policies and the HSD Continuous Improvement PlanReport on the status of district programs services and state/federal reports at the request of the SuperintendentProvide interpretation of district programs test results and strategic initiatives to staff students and the broader communityAcademic Support and Professional Development:Coordinate the districts academic support remediation and acceleration programs to ensure equitable educational opportunities for all studentsCoordinate professional development and staff training activities in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum and the Administrative Council ensuring that staff are supported in delivering highquality instructionOversee the administration of Title and other major grantsCollaboration with Leadership and Staff:Work closely with the Administrative Council to align practices programs and services with the districts Vision of a GraduateCollaborate with the Director of Information Technology to ensure the integration of technology as an effective instructional tool across the districtAssist in the training supervision and evaluation of school and districtlevel administratorsSupervision and Support:Supervise personnel assigned to the position by the Superintendent including responsibilities related to Title IX SEL programming Multilingual Learner program Preschool Programming Nurses and other district support servicesWork closely with the Director of Curriculum to support the districts MTSS as well as providing oversight of our 504 and EST processesSupervise the districts Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programming including facilitating meetings and professional learning opportunities for school counselorsOversee the districts Multilingual Learner program and translation servicesCoordinate the implementation of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training across the districtAdditional Duties:Attend Board meetings and prepare reports for the Board as neededDraft and send districtwide communications related to emergencies and other needsPerform other duties and accept additional responsibilities as assigned by the SuperintendentAdhere to all Hartford School District policies building rules and department proceduresMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:Completion of an advanced degree program in Education Education Leadership Curriculum and Instruction or a related field (Masters or higher)At least ten years of public school experience including several years in educational administration or curriculum supervisionKnowledge Skills and Abilities:Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive working relationships across all levels of the school districtAbility to maintain confidentiality at all times and remain calm in challenging situationsEffective multitasking abilities with a high degree of organizational skillsProficient in written and oral communication with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to multiple audiences and stakeholdersStrong technological skills including proficiency in standard and specialized educational softwareCapacity to adapt and respond to the dynamic needs of the district and communityLICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Must obtain certification by the State of Vermont in at least one of the following endorsement areas by July 1 2025: Superintendent of SchoolsSUPERVISORY AND COORDINATION RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervision of Key Programs: Oversee Title IX compliance SEL programming Multilingual Learner program PK Nurses and related district initiativesCollaboration with Leadership Team: Regular collaboration with the Director of Special Education District Equity Coordinator and Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment to ensure cohesive and aligned educational strategies and programmingEVALUATION:As defined in the negotiated contractThis position requires an individual with a deep commitment to student achievement educational equity and continuous improvement. The Assistant Superintendent will play a key role in shaping the educational direction of the Hartford School District working closely with the Superintendent staff students and the broader community to meet the needs of all learners.
