Job Description

Overview: Americas Styrenics is a leading integrated producer of styrene monomer and polystyrene.
This position located in St. James Louisiana operates assigned equipment and areas of the plant in a safe reliable and environmentally responsible manner. This position works on one of four operating shifts and receives work direction from the assigned Shift Supervisor. The position is required to work 12hour rotating shifts including nights weekends and holidays work overtime as needed and provide standby callout coverage.

Primary Responsibilities:

    • Follows all plant safety guidelines and policies including fireant clothing and other personal protective equipment during the of job duties.
    • Complies with all environmental health safety quality and government regulations.
    • Follows procedures for safe startup shutdown and operation of chemical plant equipment.
    • Operates valves pumps filters boilers heat exchangers distillation columns treaters reactors and other chemical plant equipment.
    • Monitors performance and health of equipment and processes using field rounds listening to equipment operation recording instrument readings and catching process samples.
    • Communicates effectively with other operators Shift Supervisors and the Shift Activity Coordinator.
    • Participates in shift relief meetings relaying key process and equipment information.
    • Performs process and equipment troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues.
    • Performs preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs as required.
    • Writes work notifications to ensure timely equipment repairs.
    • Documents observations and troubleshooting efforts in written logbook entries.
    • Prepares equipment and issues detailed Safe Work Permits.
    • Participates as an active member of the fire brigade.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Job Requirements/Education/Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Below experience also considered:
    • 2year Associates Degree in Process Technology
    • Miliary rank of E4 or higher and discharged from the military within the last 2 years with Military Occupational Specialty in:
    • Instrumentation Electrical Process Operations Mechanical or related disciplines
    • 3 years experience in operations or maintenance at an industrial manufacturing facility

Other Requirements (With or without accommodations):

    • Must be willing and able to work outside yearround under various weather conditions.
    • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
    • Requires balancing stooping kneeling squatting twisting reaching and rapid work pace etc.
    • Must be willing and able to wear an airpurifying respirator and SCBA.
    • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.
    • Must be willing and able to work at heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders.
    • Must be willing and able to work in tight enclosed or confined spaces.

Additional Requirements:

    • Must successfully complete required skills assessment: Console Operator Basic Requirement Assessment (COBRA).
    • Strong leadership teamwork and interpersonal skills.
    • Effective written verbal and listening communication skills.
    • Good interpersonal skills (develops positive working relationships with coworkers at all levels and within all organizations at the facility)
    • Commitment to personal safety.
    • Must be able to complete the requirements of the formal operator training program.
    • Must have valid TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) or be able to secure one within 30 days.
    • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a fulltime basis now and in the future without requiring sponsorship.

Other Information:

    • To attend to emergencies successful candidates primary residence must be within a defined 55mile radius of the St. James plant or must be willing to relocate to defined 55mile radius without relocation assistance.
    • Americas Styrenics will conduct interviews and the successful candidates must complete a medical screening functional capacity evaluation background check and drug screen prior to employment.
Relocation is not authorized for this position.
