Job Description

Transportation Road Supervisor

Kent ISD

Full time 220 day position

NonUnion hourly ClassifiedGrade5B

Broad Statement of Responsibilities

To observe monitor review and assist school bus drivers to maintain constant compliance with federal state and local laws regulations and to adhere to internal policies and procedures as well as to conduct regular and necessary training programs as needed.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  1. Instruct review and evaluate drivers to ensure the proper pretrip and posttrip inspection of school buses. Randomly evaluate eight 8 drivers perform this function each month.
  2. Instruct review and evaluate the driving performance of school bus drivers. Randomly evaluate eight 8 drivers perform this function each month.
  3. Instruct review and evaluate all wheelchair securement and lift operations. Randomly evaluate eight 8 drivers and/or attendants perform this function each month.
  4. Review and evaluate all passenger pickup and drop off locations for legal compliance. Randomly evaluate eight 8 drivers perform this function each month.
  5. Provide support to first responder during accident investigations when needed.
  6. DOE/DOT compliance in addition to company policies and procedures compliance.
  7. Conduct retraining when requested and review performance evaluation with Supervisor.
  8. Provide classroom and field instruction.
  9. Complete forms for instruction review and evaluation of driver and attendant performance.
  10. Conduct training and educational activities for transportation including defensive driving efficient and safer student transportation methods and bus evacuation and others as required by law.
  11. Review transportation safety concerns; communicate with management staff regarding vehicle and equipment safety for school bus operations.
  12. Audit of Route Times (scheduled versus actual)
  13. Audit of Timecards including verification of scheduled route time versus timecards
  14. Audit of Run Books / Route Sheets; accuracy of scheduled route in routing system versus daytoday followup
  15. Followup on customer concerns as directed

Supervisor Responsibilities:

Directly supervises employees in Kent ISD Special Education Transportation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning assigning and directing work: appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints resolving problems and training.

Skills Abilities Special Licenses or Certificates:

  1. Current drivers license with credentials to operate a school bus
  2. CDL with P/S endorsements and no air brake restriction
  3. Pathfinders Bloodborne Pathogens and Universal Precautions
  4. CPR First Aid Operation Lifesaver
  5. Current Certification for Beginning Bus School and/or Continuing Bus Driver Training per State of Michigan guidelines and curriculum
  6. CPI Training / Behavior Management
  7. Safe driving history including operating commercial motor vehicles
  8. Must be able to pass the FBI Background check
  9. Train the Trainer Certification (Preferred)

Education and/or Experience:

Associates degree (A.A. or equivalent from twoyear College or Technical School; or six months to oneyear related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions would need to dress properly and work successfully in the outdoor northern climate. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. No physical restrictions that would prevent acting in accordance with this job description. Would need to have the ability to safely evacuate a school bus in the event of an emergency

Pay & Benefits:

NonUnion Hourly Classified Grade5B $24.23$31.51/hr
