JOB SUMMARY: In keeping with directions outlined in the Ontario Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board is seeking a Mental Health Leader to coordinate align and implement a School Board Mental Health Strategy. In addition to providing leadership within the Board and community in the area of school mental health this individual will serve as a liaison with Provincial Mental Health Initiatives and will monitor and share our implementation progress and learning. Moreover the Mental Health Leader will support district capacity building for mental health services and support in schools evidence informed practice and system navigation. The Leader will report to the Superintendent responsible for Mental Health and Wellness.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for providing social work services and programs including therapeutic counselling and consultation and capacity building on a Boardwide basis at designated schools
- Lead the coordination alignment and implementation of mental health wellness and addiction strategy as part of collaborative multidisciplinary educational services program team
- Leads clinical cosupervision with social workers and provides input on performance
- Develops monitors and reports on performance targets and service levels; identifies operational risks; completes program/service reviews; and develops recommendations and action plans
- Participates in clinical meetings systemwide program planning evaluation meetings and meetings with internal supervisor (superintendent) and external peer supervisor/ SMHO coach
- Provides crisis intervention during safety and security emergencies and is primary point of contact for staff and monitors calls frequently through the day
- Acts as liaison for provincial mental health initiatives (School Mental Health Ontario) collaborates with other mental health leaders across province shares learning and provides input to development and implementation of provincial resources
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a graduate degree in Social Work Clinical/School Psychology or Psychiatry;
- Registration in the appropriate professional college as required;
- Leadership courses in social service administration
- VTRA level 1 and 2
- ASIST Training 11
- Extensive clinical experience within a school district setting across the tiers of mental health intervention (promotion prevention intervention crisis system navigation);
- Fluent understanding of evidenceinformed practice implementation science and knowledge mobilization in schools;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in strategy development coordination and implementation in the area of mental health;
- Experience providing and/or facilitating adult learning professional learning and training;
- Excellent communication coordination and organizational skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment;
- Strong management and supervision skills;
- Proven strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
- Knowledge of staff evaluation and development processes;
- Knowledgeable of early identification and interventions for Children/Youth Mental Health;
- Excellent presentation skills including effective use of computer technology;
- Demonstrated ability to meet timelines and to produce exemplary systemlevel materials;
- Thorough knowledge of current theories and practices related to Mental Health;
- Valid Ontario Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle.
