Please note: This recruitment is open to current internal Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) employees only.


As a Workers Compensation Adjudicator 5 in Pension you will have the responsibility of determining if an injured worker is permanently and totally disabled whether an employer is eligible for second injury fund relief make recommendations to the supervisor of Industrial Insurance regarding ongoing treatment after pension and make determinations in cases of death claims and survivor benefits. These necessary complex and difficult decisions require an added touch of empathy dependability and accountability.

Additionally this will be an opportunity to provide mentorship to other adjudicators act as the face of the Pension section and provide external and internal customers with information and education about the process. You will be working with your team to identify and develop ways to improve work processes establish checks and balances and create a healthy atmosphere of reliability and consistency with customers.

Duties

Some of what youll do:

  • Thoroughly review and evaluate individual cases to determine the eligibility for pension or survivor benefits.
  • Resolve protest appeal dispute or other specific customer inquiries by evaluating reviewing and collecting relevant documents sufficient to resolving outstanding protest appeals and disputes.
  • Participate in Lean process improvement initiatives and performance metrics making current processes more efficient and effective for internal and external customers.
  • Mentor lowerlevel adjudicators and maintain positive relationships with customers.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Successful completion of the Department of Labor and Industries Workers Compensation Adjudicator 2 Apprenticeship program.

And

  • One year of experience as a Workers Compensation Adjudicator 4.
    Or
  • Bachelors degree

And

  • Four years of experience in adjudicating workers or crime victims compensation insurance claims or adjudication of time loss payments.

Or

  • Equivalent education/experience.

Desired:

  • Prior experience negotiating settlements and providing testimony at the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals.

For this position telework is dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. The assigned duty station for this position is Tumwater Washington.
