Job Description

Job Title: Coordinator I Communications

Department: Communications

Pay Grade: P100

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Chief Communications Officer

GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for supporting the Chief Communications Officer in executing a strategic communications plan for the districts marketing and communications initiatives; producing editorial content for a variety of platforms including the districts website newsletter select publications and social media. Also ensures timely clear communication and meaningful public engagement opportunities for all stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Support internal/external communications efforts through the development and production of messages publications presentations and other collateral materials to engage with a variety of audiences including employees parents community partners elected officials etc.
  • Apply strong skills in writing photography and graphic design to fulfill the role of general reporter by identifying and creating content to tell the unique stories of SPS its employees and students across all district communication channels.
  • Coordinate broad and targeted communication across all platforms used by the district.
  • Create and manage the scheduling of social media content for district social media accounts and provide guidance training and best practices to district social media ambassadors.
  • Support volunteer screening and associated processes.
  • Assist with livestreaming and recording of the Board of Education meetings uploading to YouTube and archiving on the districts website.
  • Monitor and update content on district website.
  • Oversee assigned program and/or departmental responsibilities executing the departments communication plan and achieving organizational objectives and ensuring compliance with legal and financial requirements.
  • Oversee monitoring/tracking of key communication metrics in support of strategic plan.
  • Prepare a variety of documents and written or electronic materials documenting activities and issues conveying information meeting compliance requirements and/or providing supporting materials.
  • Participate in meetings workshops trainings and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
  • Provide logistical support for special events.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in communications public relations journalism or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three 3 years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility required.

Certificates Licenses and Other Special Requirements

  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance the results of which must be satisfactory to the District required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of audio/visual technology and support and database management. Exceptional writing editing and proofreading skills and/or ability to facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues draw conclusions and create action plans.
  • Knowledgebased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include pertinent codes policies regulations and/or laws; current trends and practices in assigned area; project development goal attainment and time management.
  • Skill to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Skillbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including: operating standard office equipment and utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and training and developing staff.
  • Ability to read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions.
  • Ability to schedule a number of activities meetings and/or events; gather collate and/or classify data; and use jobrelated equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish District objectives while providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize jobrelated equipment.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team; and work with frequent interruptions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is primarily inside where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes express or exchange ideas by the spoken word substantial movements (motions) with the hands wrists and/or fingers and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally the following physical abilities are required: balancing climbing crawling crouching feeling grasping handling hearing kneeling manual dexterity mental acuity reaching repetitive motion speaking standing stooping talking visual acuity and walking.
