Kitasoo Community School is a bright modern and spacious Indigenous K4 to grade 12 school located in the beautiful village of Klemtu on the Pacific Central Coast of British Columbia. We have a new library and active culture language and stewardship programs.
Klemtu is surrounded by pristine wilderness in the Great Bear Rainforest. Wildlife abounds from eagles to bears sea otters to sea lions and whales. Kayak on the weekends (with one of the schools six boats) canoe on the nearby lake (in a community canoe) or hike through oldgrowth forests.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications experience and skills:
- BC Teacher Certification
- Teacher training and practicum at the Elementary level
- Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or practicum reports
- Bachelor of Education (or higher)
- The ability and energy to work with multiage groups and meet the needs of students with a range of learning styles and abilities using a variety of teaching strategies
- Actively work closely with staff in a teamoriented approach to teaching and learning
- Ability to embed local Indigenous culture and ways of knowing into teaching practices
- An interest in outdoor landbased education
- Strong classroom management skills
- Communication and interpersonal skills: ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful compassionate and respectful manner
- High standards of professional conduct and professional excellence; effective and innovative practice; lifelong learning and personal/ professional growth
Job Duties: - Create a literacy and numeracyrich classroom community; promote rigour.
- Teach a range of courses in elementary grades.
- Create a positive structured and safe learning environment for students.
- Be nurturing and patient; incorporate social emotional learning.
- Plan engaging units and implement the redesigned BC Curriculum.
- Differentiate instruction and assess student learning.
- Communicate with students and parents/guardians.
- Work with colleagues as part of a collaborative team.
- Implementing and support students in outdoor placebased lessons in the Great Bear Rainforest.
Salary and Benefits - Salary range $65 annum based upon education and experience (based upon the School District No. 49 Central Coast Teachers Salary Grid)
