The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC) Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Nursing Administrator at the Anchorage Central Office (ACO) in Anchorage Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Oversite of all Nursing services statewide within Department of Corrections.
  • Member of DOCs Health & Rehabilitation multidisciplinary executive team.
  • In accordance with National Commission on Correctional Health Care develop and implement policies and procedure to address the unique healthcare needs of the inmate population including mental health and substance abuse issues.
  • Supervision of staff in multiple areas to include Nursing Medical Records Medical Supply and special projects.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

Our office is located in the Atwood Building. This position works in a collaborative team environment and will interface daily with a variety of people including members of the public field offices other managers directors and the Commissioners Office.

Competency Description

The competency description(s) listed below have been designed to promote a common understanding of the essential elements of the job class. Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge skills and abilities in:
  • Legal requirements and restraints on the practice of nursing;
  • Nursing principles and practices in applicable specialties;
  • Uses and effects of a variety of classes of medications including psychotropic medications in current use and their common side effects;
  • Personnel and budget administration; assessing and coordinating nursing services and programs personnel and operational management and supervisory principles and techniques;
  • Planning organizing directing and supervising a comprehensive nursing program; and
  • Establishing standards for quality nursing care

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Advanced educational development in nursing or a closely related field which includes either a bachelors degree in nursing or Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing;
and
Progressively responsible professional nursing experience that includes supervisory and/or managerial experience planning implementing coordinating managing and evaluating activities in a hospital or primary care setting and/or comprehensive nursing program or similar healthcare delivery system.

Special Note:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation including fingerprinting as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

EDUCATION

If postsecondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has beenconvicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
