Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Maintains optimal operation quality of water chemistry in order to meet or exceed minimum standards set by Comal Kendall Hayes Guadalupe and Bexar counties Health Department. Services and maintains equipment and systems at optimum efficiency levels for multiple outdoor aquatic facilities. This includes but is not limited to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of chemical pumps chlorinators filters skimmers and other related equipment and systems.

Education / Certification:

  1. High school diploma or GED.

  2. Certification as a Pool Operator by the State of Texas Must obtain within twelve 12 months of employment.

  3. Valid Texas Drivers License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Working knowledge of pool plumbing repairs maintenance and installation techniques.
  2. Knowledge of the operation repair and maintenance of swimming pools equipment and facilities.
  3. Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions applicable to pool maintenance.
  4. Knowledge of chemical water treatment systems and pool water testing.
  5. Knowledge of current pool maintenance codes and regulations.
  6. Basic computer and office equipment skills
  7. Strong written/oral communication organizational and interpersonal skills

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Three years of experience in pool maintenance and treatment is required.
  2. Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business including after hours or when away from the office on district business.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Tests water at multiple outdoor aquatic facilities and potable water systems. Monitors and adjusts treatment systems to maintain optimal water chemistry (to meet or exceed standards set by the local Health Department) and system operation.
  2. Controls the level of corrosion inhibitors used to protect pool and piping systems. Makes adjustments in conductivity settings and chemical pump output as needed to provide optimum protection.
  3. Troubleshoots chemical bleed lines conductivity controllers and chemical pumps as needed.
  4. Adds biocides routinely as needed to combat biological growth.
  5. Monitors water evaporation and makeup rates.
  6. Performs water test for hardness to ensure optimum equipment performance
  7. Maintains an accurate inventory of chemicals and makes necessary purchases of such items.
  8. Services and maintains equipment / systems at optimum efficiency levels for multiple outdoor aquatic facilities includes but not limited to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of chemical pumps motors chlorinators filters skimmers acid pumps portable pool cleaning equipment (i.e. under water vacuums and automatic scrubbers) and related equipment and systems.
  9. Maintains services and tests chlorine injection systems.
  10. Establishes systematic inspections and maintenance procedures for related aquatic equipment.
  11. Develops and implements a preventative maintenance program for District pools.
  12. Recommends capital improvement projects for District pools to department administrators.
  13. Develops and maintains operational log for trend analysis and historical cost data.
  14. Performs regular facility inspections.
  15. Reviews activity and event logs in order to schedule maintenance and repair work that will not interfere with normal operation.
  16. Works with Purchasing Department in establishing uptodate vendor lists for chemicals and equipment purchases.
  17. Writes reports and correspondence pertaining to water quality issues and pool maintenance as needed.
  18. Maintains confidentiality of information.
  19. Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  20. Other duties as may be assigned.
