Job Description

This is an internal search that will only consider current UW Oshkosh employees.

Serves as a senior academic officer within the School of Education and Human Services. Plans directs and provides administrative operational and strategic leadership for the academic programs within the School. Represents the academic programs regarding strategic planning curriculum development faculty recruitment and retention; and ensures the integration and coordination of academic programs and initiatives. (Limited with concurrent faculty appointment.

Responsibilities

Leadership Communication and Strategic Planning 15

  • Assist in developing and implementing the Colleges strategic plan by coordinating strategic initiatives and ensuring alignment with institutional college and school priorities
  • Support academic excellence by coordinating initiatives that enhance teaching learning scholarship and service across programs
  • Facilitate collaboration on interdisciplinary initiatives and institutional priorities and assist in communicating administrative policies within the school
  • Work collaboratively with other administrators on campus
  • Support the dean in fostering a culture of transparent communication by coordinating regular faculty and staff meetings ensuring that information is shared in a timely and accessible manner and promoting initiatives that enhance collegiality integrity and inclusivity within the academic community
  • Supervise all school instructional staff.

Academic Program and Student Experience/Outcome Management 15

  • Coordinate program reviews and assessments to ensure quality and compliance with accreditation standards
  • Facilitate curricular updates based on emerging trends and workforce needs working with faculty to ensure program relevance and innovation
  • Develop and oversee strategies for recruitment retention and graduation working with faculty staff and student services to enhance the student experience
  • Provide oversight of graduate education and support graduate coordinators

Faculty and Staff Development 15

  • Oversee mentoring programs and orientations for new faculty and staff
  • Manage staffing plan with input from Area Coordinators faculty and staff
  • Coordinate with faculty development programs monitor and assess outcomes and ensure alignment with institutional goals. Facilitate the adoption of innovative teaching and learning strategies through collaboration with academic units
  • Coordinate and support faculty development and recognition processes
  • Coordinate and support program area coordinator development and recognition process
  • Provide leadership and guidance to areas and school committees on hiring practices search and screen policies tenure renewal guidelines and any related personnel matters
  • Support and collaborate with the Dean on appointment renewal tenure and promotion processes
  • Oversee annual review of faculty and IAS

Budget and Resource Management 20

  • Support the college Dean in analyzing annual/biennial appropriations and their respective impact on the college and schools in relation to college strategic goals and planning
  • Advocate for resources to support the schools academic research and service activities
  • Manage school allocated resources

Internal and External Relations and Advocacy 15

  • Represent the Dean of the college at various internal and external governing and service committees councils and other bodies supporting the college mission
  • Support the Dean in maintaining relationships with donors and potential donors to SOEHS in collaboration with the UW Foundation
  • Represent SOEHS in the professional community and participate in the Wisconsin Association of Colleges of Teacher Educators
  • Advocate for the faculty program areas and school in the college university and community

Operations 20

  • Understand the purposes and supports the academic programs of each of the schools areas; understand how they work together and separately and how they relate to the schools accreditation compliances and mission statement
  • Oversee all contracts MOUs articulation agreements affiliation agreements as well as the processes related to each within the school
  • Provide oversight of student concerns complaints and appeals processes
  • Coordinate and oversee the SOEHS scholarship process
QualificationsRequired:

  • Current employee at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
  • Currently hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in an academic field and candidate must be at minimum a member of the faculty with tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor approved by the Board of Regents within one year of appointment
  • Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role
  • Demonstrated record in contributing to the development of new strategies and implementation of current and new directions such as but not limited to specific achievements project completion and team performance
  • Evidence of a collaborative and collegial leadership style with value and respect to all perspectives fostering an environment where all individuals feel valued supported and able to contribute their unique ideas and experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold and encourage academic standards through relevant skills experience and a proactive approach to continuous improvement
Preferred:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in both candidate and institutional program assessment/review and reporting
  • Experience and active involvement as an instructor of at least five 5 years
  • Experience in accreditation
  • Experience and understanding of the role of graduate education in general and within teacher education
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in program and curricular development both at the theoretical and implementation stages
  • Experience in developing and operating collaborative initiatives and/or partnerships between colleges community agencies and PK12 schools
