THE POSITION AND THE DEPARTMENT
This position plays an important role in the recruitment and outreach initiatives of Normandale Community College for the purpose of enrolling new Black and African American students to the College. The primary objective is to meet or exceed FYE enrollment goals established by the administration. This position will provide development and implementation of programs and procedures for marketing community outreach student recruitment and student advising. This position serves as a primary link between the prospective student and the College in all matters related to the enrollment process.
The Black African and African American Student Advocate and Admissions Representative will use a strengthbased approach to provide enrollment support to Black and African American students and families. This position is responsible for participating in a wide range of activities and tasks that result in moving students through the enrollment funnel through tasks including but not limited to: prospect generation inquiry management application development orientation and registration. This position informs prospective students parents and high school counseling staff of the admission requirements procedures and educational opportunities available at Normandale Community College. The Black and African American Advocate and Admissions Representative provides presentations about the college and represents the college at high school visits educational fairs and college/career events. This position is responsible for developing relationships with high school guidance counselors other civic and community leaders and maintains followup contact with prospective students and their parents. This position arranges campus visits tours and other outreach events in support of the college enrollment plan. This position conducts prepares and presents position related research.
This position will actively advance the colleges strategic goals including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and serviceoriented culture through individual and departmental efforts.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
One year of experience working in higher education supporting outreach or recruitment strategies. Education can substitute for experience as follows: Associates 6 months of experience; Bachelors 1 year of experience
Ability to write and speak in a second language such as Arabic Somali Amharic Swahili French
Knowledge of culture and history of the Black and African American communities in the twin cities area sufficient to support the unique needs of this population
Knowledge of culturally responsive practices and strategies for student recruitment
Ability to demonstrate strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills needed to interact with courtesy respect and professionalism with individuals of varying educational levels and diverse backgrounds to create a positive impression and experience working with the Admissions office.
Ability to successfully conduct public relations on the colleges behalf through public speaking engagements interpersonal communication (verbal and written) and relationship building.
Preferred:
Three years of experience working in higher education supporting outreach or recruitment strategies.
Capacity to navigate and utilize technology tools and systems effectively demonstrating a proactive attitude towards learning new software and digital platforms relevant to admissions operations.
Familiarity with the Minn State System in general and Normandale programs policies and procedures
Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate the development of cultural enrichment activities that celebrate cultural diversity promote positive race relations and increase the social interaction of staff and students within the college.
