Job Description

Dexter Southfield is an independent school where boys and girls in PreK through Class 12 develop their individual talents and build an ethical foundation for life. Students learn to lead and serve with character confidence and compassion. Our 36acre campus is located on the BrooklineBoston line just minutes from the citys best museums libraries hospitals performing arts venues colleges and universities all of which serve as an extension of our classrooms. Essential Job Functions:
  • Design and implement a comprehensive and engaging chorus curriculum that engages and challenges student in the grades K5 and aligns with School standards
  • Collaborate with faculty staff and administration to enhance the choral and music experience for students
  • Develop lesson plans that incorporate a variety of teaching methods handson activities and assessment tools to engage diverse learning styles and abilities
  • Encourage creativity and selfexpression through projects and performances that blend various forms and emphasize personal voice and interpretation
  • Maintain a classroom climate conducive to exploration and learning while establishing clear expectations and a safe space for risktaking in chorus and performing arts
  • Offer guidance and constructive feedback to help students refine their skills and develop their unique identities in vocal techniques music theory and performance skills
  • Support students emotional and social growth by encouraging collaboration and respect in the creative process
  • Participate actively in faculty meetings professional development opportunities and school events to support the schools mission and educational goals
  • Partner with families to share student progress celebrate achievements and provide support as needed
  • Stay current with trends in education and teaching techniques to enrich the classroom experience
  • Participate in workshops conferences and professional development activities to expand skill sets and improve instructional strategies
  • Coach two seasons of sports or an equivalent alternate assignment
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred in Music Education Choral Conducting or a related field
  • At least three years of experience teaching K8 students in a choral setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge in teaching principles theories methods behavior management techniques classroom management skills and conflict resolution strategies
  • Strong piano proficiency and ability to accompany student performances
  • Knowledge of diverse choral repertoire including classical contemporary and multicultural
  • Ability to engage and motivate students of varying skill levels
  • Proficiency developing delivering and assessing lesson plans and instruction
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students faculty staff and parents
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines with maximum precision and minimal supervision
  • Understanding of the unique academic social and behavioral characteristics of this age group
  • History of continued education or professional development
  • Ability to be flexible effectively manage stress andadapt to changing work prioritiesin a fastpaced work environment
  • Willingness to work as a team player and as an individual contributor
  • Commitment to actively promote and contribute to an engaging and inclusive workplace
Requirements:This job requires one to lift carry push and/or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds as well as the ability to stand sit walk and effective use of extremities to reach hold touch push pull lift and carry. Incumbent must also effectively communicate (oral written nonverbal) with others. This job typically requires 35 sitting 35 walking and 30 standing and is performed under minimal temperature variations in a generally hazardfree environment. Depending on classroom assignment this role may require one to relocate classrooms throughout the day and require ascending and descending stairs. Incumbents will occasionally be required to work extended hours including after school during evenings and on weekends.
Dexter Southfields 36acre campus is composed of several buildings playing fields and outdoor learning spaces which are accessible via internal and external walkways stairs nature paths hills and uneven terrain. This position requires one to transfer between these areas in all weather conditions.
