TITLE: Assistant Director of Early Childhood
LOCATION: Central Office and Training Center
The Kansas City Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22000 students and 60 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.
With Head Start/preschools 28 elementary schools 7 middle schools and 5 college and career academies/high schools we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56 Hispanic 24 African American 9 White and 6 Asian. To serve our students the district employs approximately 4000 employees including more than 1800 teachers.
GOAL: The Assistant Director of Early Childhood will report to the Director of Early Childhood and support the administration of the Early Childhood program in accordance with all grant and district guidelines and policies. This role involves writing renewal applications and other grants as needed for the early childhood programs. Additionally the Assistant Director will engage with the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) and other state leadership to ensure compliance with grant funding requirements. They will also collaborate with Early Childhood Principals to help implement grant and district expectations within the Early Childhood schools.

Maintain effective working relationships with district staff students parents and the community. Possess the ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication to enhance cooperative action to meet the educational needs of students.
REASONING ABILITY:
Must have the ability to perform single technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skillbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
LANGUAGE AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to read analyze and interpret general educational reports professional journals technical procedures and regulations. Ability to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios; understand written procedures write routine documents and speak clearly; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include pertinent codes policies regulations and/or laws; health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; computer operations and management information systems.
