The Role

Were looking for a sharp selfmotivated problemsolving Senior Backend Engineerto join our team.

As aSenior Backend Engineeron the Platform team youll help ensure that CompanyCams engineers have everything they need to be happy and productive.

From small improvements like enhancing monitoring to help teams better track performance as we scale to larger projects like updating our eventing library refining our Sidekiq queue management or speeding up our local development environment your days will be a mix of smaller and larger initiatives. But every day youll own a project from start to finish and be encouraged to pitch your own ideas to continually improve our platform and processes.

Most importantly youll actively contribute to the evolution of the culture and processes of a growing engineering team especially our backend engineering discipline. We want senior devs with experience effectively scaling codebases and iterating on processes as part of a growing team and with interest in mentoring to help our devs grow too.

Okay thats how we identify work to do but how do we actually work We take a flexible approach pulling from Agile Sprints Kanban and even Shape Up. Rather than being overly prescriptive we provide guardrails and just enough constraints to keep teams moving. Each team is expected to collaborate iterate and refine their best practices to produce highquality work.

Our teams are made up of a product manager a product designer a QA engineer a senior developer and an appropriate number of engineers for the scope of your team. We also believe in intentional downtime. After delivering projects we carve out explicit time for teams to recoup explore selfdirected work and focus on what matters to themwhether thats learning new skills tackling pet projects or finally fixing that bug thats been nagging you.

We protect our engineers time treat them like adults and trust them to get their work done. Were also big on not overworking people. Put in your eight hours of focused quality work and then TURN. SLACK. OFF.No nights and weekends.

What We Ask Of You

These are our nonnegotiables:

• 5 years of professional software development experience including
• 4 years of handson experience with Ruby on Rails
• Familiarity with Redis PostgreSQL and Sidekiq in a production environment
• Strong understanding of backend fundamentals building APIs managing background jobs and debugging performance or reliability issues in a large evolving Rails monolith.
• You live and work permanently in the U.S. (Were not set up to hire outside the U.S.

Nicetohaves

While 90 of your daytoday will be in Ruby on Rails we use a variety of tools and platforms. Youll encounter the following technologies with varying frequency experience with them is a plus but not required:

• AWS (S3 EC2 etc.
• ElasticSearch
• MongoDB
• Experience on a Platform or DevOps team
• Terraform we dont write much but familiarity is helpful
• GraphQL

Benefits & Compensation

This is a salaried position at CompanyCam. Our salary range is$165000 $175000per year and is based on experience. We also offer meaningful equity and otherbenefits.
