As Supervisor Blasting you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Safety Health and Environment
- Consistently apply Safety and health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Identify specific risks within the working area and adhere to disciplinespecific plans/systems to avoid these risks.
- Implement Safety and Health systems within the work area.
- Active participation in SLAMs HPHs relevant Risk Assessments and closeout of Safety Actions.
- Performance and Delivery
- Planning and Coordination:
- Ensure compliance with daily/weekly operational plans.
- Plan and deliver the weekly schedule considering the requirements for the upcoming shifts.
- Communicate with other operational supervisors during the shift to monitor conditions and escalate unforeseen deviations from the plan/schedule.
- Provide inputs into developing and implementing a regular production plan maintenance schedule and resource allocation to minimise delays.
- Conduct overinspections to address potential issues and ensure preparedness for unforeseen circumstances.
- Assist in creating contingency plans for unforeseen failures or delays.
- Consult with Mining Section Manager providing input into all disciplinerelated designs and schedules to ensure they remain relevant to actual conditions and meet desired outputs.
- Regularly consult with other operational supervisors to monitor current operating conditions and determine any changes that may be required to the plan.
- Deliver the shift plan within the context of the weekly plan and the months requirements always considering what is needed to set up oncoming shifts for success.
- Develop effective traffic management plans that minimise equipment interactions and maintain the integrity of drilled holes.
- Prioritize tasks assign team members continually monitor and assess performance to accomplish tasks and outputs and build relevant followup action plans to bridge gaps.
- Take appropriate action to respond to outofnorm conditions in Blasting.
- Mitigate unforeseen circumstances where possible and escalate issues that may prevent the delivery of the plan.
- Monitor compliance to design metrics to drive a highperformance team culture.
- Ensure work areas are set up and maintained to required standards and all relevant safety controls are in place and effective.
- Shift Handovers and Continuity:
- Engage in comprehensive shift handovers with incoming and outgoing peer Supervisors actively exchanging pertinent information crucial for daily plans thereby supporting the seamless continuity of safe and responsible production across all shifts.
- Manage daytoday administrative activities to guarantee smooth operational flow.
- Secure continuous coverage for the shift by introducing and inducting new hires reviewing and approving holiday requests completing and authorising timesheets for payroll purposes and effectively managing planned leave. Collaborate with site Contractor Management when applicable to ensure alignment.
- Complete all required shift reports and documentation on schedule ensuring highquality data capture.
- Performance Monitoring and Improvement:
- Monitor and assess performance regarding task accomplishment outputs and handovers.
- Support effective cost management across shifts focusing on reducing system waste.
- Support the relevant mining reconciliation process and drive performance and compliance.
- Ensure critical data is collected accurately and on time to support reconciliation requirements.
- Attend weekly reconciliation meetings and help develop corrective actions to aid recovery and drive improvements.
- Proactively identify and flag Miningspecific challenges and opportunities that new technology could address.
- Budget Management and Cost Control:
- Contribute to cost saving within own section.
- Maintain budget accuracy within set limits.
- Support effective cost management by approving required tools and equipment to the level of financial authority developing an awareness of costs within the team and focusing on reducing all types of waste.
- People and Teams:
- Lead preshift meetings clearly and concisely ensuring the effective communication of all relevant information to the team.
- Invest significant facetoface time with team members to observe performance and behaviours providing improvement coaching and guidance.
- Support a purposeled culture based on company values inclusivity and diversity.
- Actively engage in team processes and set clear expectations.
- Ensure participation in required training and provide coaching and feedback.
- Resolve issues and escalate as required.
- Compliance:
- Ensure that all local compliance requirements are met as a baseline for site performance.
- Follow all relevant Anglo American compliance standards related to Mining Operations and ensure team compliance.
- Abide by all applicable regulations policies and procedures while acting at the next higher level when required.
This role is in the Mining (MIN) at a Band 7 level reporting to the Section Manager.
Qualifications :
- Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science)/N3 Technical
- Relevant Higher National Qualification on NQF5
- Blasting Certificate DMR/ MQA rock breaking obtained before May 2017
- A2 Safety Training Certificate Advantageous
- Supervisory Development Programme Advantageous
- SA Drivers License Code B
Experience
- 5 Years of experience in mining operational processes relevant to the supervisory discipline with at least 3 years of blasting experience.
- Experience at the Magazine issuing of explosives Advantageous
- Knowledge of operational processes within the scope of the role.
- Domainspecific knowledge of relevant mining processes operating procedures and equipment capability.
- Risk management techniques and critical controls.
- Safety health and environment legislative statutory and regulatory requirements.
